Should I sell my LX 470 and buy an LX 570?

It looks like we will be moving about 150 miles away and I’m going to have to keep my work down here until I can replace the income closer to home. Which means I’ll be driving about 500 miles a week and we all know the gas mileage stinks but that’s not even really the main issue. The wear and tear and mileage on the vehicle is the issue.

I have a 2005 LX 470 with 270,000 miles on it meticulously maintained no rust drives like it’s brand new but I don’t particularly want to put 25,000 or 30,000 miles on it in the next year until I can replace my income closer to home and it’s my daily driver. I planned to do an AHC sensor lift, put all-terrain tires on it a roof rack maybe a storage system in the back possibly upgrade to king springs and maybe do a rear bumper. I didn’t wanna do anything crazy to this thing because I’m not really a rock crawler. I just wanna capable bug out off-road vehicle that looks cool as well.

I also have a 2003 Camry with about 170k miles on it. Which I’ve done a lot of maintenance on all new suspension new steering rack front end tires starter alternator things like that. It runs good but I don’t know if I’d want to rag that out either and kill it.

I could sell my LX 470 and buy 570 with lower miles newer that I’d be into payments again but I have a newer platform to build upon. I could buy a used LX sedan or Camry both of which lower miles and newer then my older Camry which my wife drives and drive that for work or I could just chance it leave my LX with the wife and take the old Camry.

What would you guys do in this scenario? Remember I might have to do this for a year to a year and a half which Will definitely put some miles on the vehicle. Obviously reliability is a high factor that’s why I go with these vehicles. Thanks.

Okay…get a Prius and be done…3x the gas mileage of the 100. Cheaper everything than the 100.
Definitely...Gas Milage isn't the ONLY factor. I'm weighing comfort, decent gas milage, reliability and vibe all together. If it was strictly about the gas $$ I'd get a Prius sure.

I say if it drives like new then keep and drive. Highway miles are the easiest. If you decide it's not for you and you want a more modern vehicle you'll likely get your money back out of it. Obviously a 200 won't get that much better mpg's. When dialed in they are great highway cruisers.

Ever driven a Prius? Biggest mistake I made was selling my 04 to buy my LX. I miss it every day. They are great little cars for commuting. Comfortable. Spacious. Love them.
No I’ve never driven one and I’ve driven in one. I don’t really like small cars my wife’s Camry is too small for me to be honest. My car before this Lexus was a big diesel 2500 ram pick up. So a Land Cruiser is even kind of small for me. And ours an hours of Highway miles I just want to be in something more substantive.

I had a situation like that a few years ago.

I bought a 91 camry for $800, put $150 in parts on it, drove it for 20k and sold it for 1200.

Obviously, there was some risk in getting a car that old, but if she had broken down, I could drive the cruiser until fixed....

LS400 or LS430

Non-obvious choice: helicopter.

Personal note: I have an 01 LX and 17 Bolt. I don't tow anymore nor need to carry lots of stuff or people. I mix city and highway driving. I replaced the battery on the LX today due to lack of use over the past month. I think 200 miles in the Bolt costs around $5 in range done overnight with a $400 240V/32A charger.

find a cheap room to rent for the week, stay 4 nights a week and go home on weekends

Haha yes, this is definitely what I would do to keep from racking up miles on a 18yo Camry. 🤣
