Should I? I believe it is a Bellview...

I am shopping around for a used Warn winch. I might have found what I am looking for.

I have a 12/75 FJ40. I would like to fit with the time period... & cant afford a new 8274-50 (but want one).

I have found an old Warn, I believe it is a Bellview... seller says it is a #12,000 but probably not, more like #8,000. There isn't a model number or serial number.

Can anyone define the make and model... I think these are pre '73.

It needs a new relay (seller has bought a new Ford relay, not installed) and needs connections to the battery. Seller says it works well.

I'd like feedback on if this is worth it...$250.

I'm sure it is better than my come-along and tow strap.

I ran one on my mini truck for a couple years before I sold the truck. I never got in a situation it didnt pull me out of. My only complaint was the lack of a brake. In a few situations it would have been nice to be able to hold a position without the winch free spooling in reverse. I ran a couple ford solenoids and consistantly toasted em. I eventually switched to a constant duty warn solenoid and had no issues, I think they were only $12 or so. That price seems a bit high as an older 8274 can be had in the $300 range

i have that same winch on my car hauler .its simple and it either pulls stuff out or pulls it in half.but it does not have reverse ,however there is a brake and it works good .there are no solenoids just a lever to push and thats it .a ford solenoid will not last to long get the right one as in the previous post .i paid 150.00 for mine so you may want to shop around .good luck

i had one for years and loved it, dead reliable and strong.
the lever on the side is the brake.

i trusted it enough to go wheeling by myself far back into the foothills, never let me down and stronger than most winches out there.

Is there a good palce to get parts for these bellview winches? I have on that is missing the brake drum.

no other pics

sorry, I don't have another view of it. I am trying to work him down on price.

mounting?

Does anyone have a pic of how they mounted this winch to their OEM front bumper?

Thanks in advance.

It is definitely a bellview/warn winch. I just paid 300 for mine but it came with a hitch insert frame. I'm planning on sell the hidden hitch part. Considered a great winch. Going rate is 300-600 for it btw per John from MN who makes the parts for them. Name a contact # is in my post a few down from this one.
