The winter storm on Sunday claimed Laura's BMW. She's alright, but the car is totaled. Spun out on Maynard where the road was 100% ice ( difficult to walk on, let alone drive ). Here are some pics:

Therefore, we're in the market for a new ride. If anyone knows of a cheap-ish DD for her to use, let me know. Budget is somewhere around $2k. We'd prefer a manual transmission vehicle, but aren't too picky. I have found what looks to be a decent 80 on Craigslist, white no less, but before resorting to the goons on there, I figured I'd ask y'all.

Not particular on the # or doors, 4 seats a must, preferably north of 20mpg.

Any leads, let me know. Thanks guys!

Yeah glad she's ok as we'll. Don't know if it's what you are looking for but I saw an old school Volvo for sale on the side of the road around Greensboro the other day. White, I believe it was a '89. It actually looked pretty clean, not sure if it was diesel. I think it said $1600 in the window. I don't know why but I have always kinda liked 'em that's why it caught my eye. Not sure if that is what you are looking for but would be glad to check it out a little more for you if it helps.

Glad to hear she's ok, spinning on Ice is no fun. I took my Firebird formula for a spin 2 months after buying it.

Anything else to consider??? Just a manual tranny and under 2k or does, seating, doors, mpg come into consideration?

Yeah, if you wouldn't mind, snap a pic or two and get some more details. Definitely interested:D

Manual tranny would be best but the car cannot be more than $2500. 4 seats is a must and MPG over 20 is preferable.

Got turned away by that one because of the gauge cluster. This car has had a bunch of work done on it and the wiring may be questionable. More stock is better IMO.

Glad to hear she is ok man... I'll sell ya the bronco...

I'll ask around, we get a lot of cars for sale at the shop.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

I'm pretty good at looking through craigslist, so the intent of this post was to tap into resources outside of Craigslist. Thanks for looking Al, I found those last night and are sitting on the list of potentials.

Sorry to hear bout the car but glad she's okay. I'll keep my eyes pealed. I got a motorcycle for $300 if you want it. 40mpg baby!

So the diesel option is becoming more and more prevalent in my mind. Something about getting 35+ mpg and the ability to run biodiesel / WVO...

Lots of diesel MBs in Winston-Salem, a couple of fine selections here in Raleigh. The search continues...

I'll eventually get mine up and going and go the SVO/Bio route.

Wait, you've got a diesel whip as well? MB, VW or something else?

We could get a regular hippie commune going on with the amount of oil burners in this club.

My wife had an '02 Jetta TDI till a few years ago. Engine was great but so many other things weren't. It DID work a lot better once the warranty was up and we stopped taking it to VW. I'd have another if the trannies went more than 70k. I'd like a BMW 3-Series diesel if I had to buy a new car.

I'd say go for a Volvo. 240, 240D...wagon or sedan. Ugly but classic.

I can also vouch for late 90's Hyundais. Cheap and cheap to fix. One of my flock is a '97 Accent I drive when I don't wanna deal with big MT's and no PS and want AC or heat. My buddy swears by his early 80's BMW's but he has 3 for a reason...
