I just got a chance to go check out that Volvo and it was already sold. I can vouch for the old MB diesels, I have a 81 240D that I use as my commuter car and I absolutely love it. 245000 and runs flawlessly. A realistic mpg is around 27-31, I check every fill up and it will be around there somewhere, and on all the Benz forums that is usually par for the course. They usually ride super smooth for being thirty years old and are ridiculously easy to work on. If you need me to check on any in the area let me know. Next to a cruiser probably the most bullet proof car I have ever been around.

I was originally planning to purchase Al's 300SDL, which looks to be in excellent condition, however after a lot of soul searching, I decided that I wasn't going to be happy with an automatic. If anyone is looking for a DD, make sure to hit him up!

After some searching on craigslist locally, I found a really sharp 1989 Jetta Diesel. It has a new flywheel, a new starter, a new clutch and a new injection pump. Timing belt was replaced at 155k, tires have good tread, car has 190k miles and is in great condition! She does have an exhaust leak, but it should be pretty inexpensive to repair / replace. However, it already had a WVO conversion installed:grinpimp:

I picked it up a couple of weeks ago for $2400 and have since gone through and detailed the entire car. The interior is in great shape and the paint looks AWESOME after a thorough wash, buff and wax. We treated all of the exterior plastic with 'Back to Black' and the car looks pretty damn good as a result.

We filled it up for $50 a week ago, have driven 140 miles and I'm not even down to 3/4 tank yet. We should be getting 40+ mpg which is a nice change from the 9 that we were getting in Moonshine. Laura's going to ask the owners of Backyard Bistro later today if we can start taking some of their oil, so it won't even matter what mileage we're getting, because fuel will be free:cool:

Anyway, I'm pretty stoked about the car. I'm going to do a couple of typical VW mods, including wheels, maybe a set of coilovers or airbags ( airbags would be tits ) and a couple of body tweaks here and there. All in all, I'm pretty happy with this car so far:D

All-important WVO switch ( controls the diesel / wvo fuel solenoids )

Engine bay. WVO heater is in the bottom left hand corner, solenoids are above and to the right, right next to the timing cover, brand new injection pump smack dab in the middle.

Looks like a good find Johnny. The MPG and availability of WVO is huge.

Heather drives a 99 Volvo S80 that she took in on a trade about 4 years ago. It has 189K on it now, she has put 120K on it. It gets 33 MPG out on the highway and is a comfortable car. We probably have a total of $6-7 K into it total including tires. Heather loves that car and plans on keeping it around forever.

Great luck with your new ride, looks to be the perfect DD.
