So I had all these plans today... started some of it

moving dirt around and "compacting" it with my FJ40 (which looked a lot like me playing in the dirt

unfortunately
this became necessary

truly this is what I get for using used parts....
ZGJltayh.jpg

it should look like this
nspKZTuh.jpg

problem is I have no idea what it looks like together.... maybe it has a pin driven in? it's not threaded....
so I considered

call the current config 28

4L65e
is 27 1/2 (and bolts right in)

non-computer
700r4 is 24 1/2

I'm leaning away from swapping right now mostly because I don't want to put new clutches in the 4l65e or buy a computer for it.... I think just a button head came off and hopefully is now attached to the magnet on the drain.... I will drain and pray.... that said, if I do maintain the manual, I need to swap synchros because the current ones are not happy.

and while you're collecting your thoughts to respond to the missing part inside the transmission ... consider this - there are 4 bolts on the top of the transmission. All are in the same spot until I go to put it back together... now one has been changed for another bolt.... there is no one in the shop and the mice died long ago.... probably I'm just seeing the spooky action at a distance - and to think, they made a huge collider in Switzerland to prove what I just did in my shop.

good news is it was a Hummer transmission.... means I can replace it with a brand new part for pretty cheap... how cheap - $200 for a high mile, $1500 for brand new..... time to argue .... errr.... negotiate with a wrecking yard.

I know, I know, why don't I just find the bolt that's floating around inside:
1) it's a 'special' bolt meaning no one seems to make it
2) it's probably stuck to a magnet inside the case - and I have enough trouble already without that gremlin popping up at the worst possible moment
3) the synchros were marginal from the beginning

oh look, the missing bolt
Ys4Pb5Vh.jpg

it takes grinding to adapt the front trans... or simply swap the already fixed one

and put the 'old' housing on
mt5Jr4bh.jpg

and clean and put the front on... the cordless milwaukie die grinder works awesome for this

True, don't use teflon with fuel that isn't teflon paste - yep, it's white, but it's made by permatex for this application.

From the boating world I’ve had this convo more than a few times.

Permatex aviation form-a-gasket #3.

Comes in a little white can, you brush on.

Yellow teflon gets suggested, but with ethanol it can break down & wash into places like the water/fuel filter & prematurely plug it.

HTH if you still have gas vapor issues.

now with square adapter.... it was close, and it was absolutely square - which I'm quite proud of achieving without a lathe

Um... I'm going with "old age". :flipoff2:

and here I thought you were dead... guessing you raised back to life to taunt :flipoff2:

we do need to go out and wheel - Inslee proclaimed a stay at home order... this is much like a parent telling their kid that 'they will be mad' if the kid does x.... all bluster, no breaking of law.
