Just wondering if anyone has been using this stuff what you think about it?

I used it once and felt like the my 1HDT ran quieter and smoother. I searched the threads to see info on it but nothing so far.

I've seen Shell diesel in Washington and Oregon with a "Minimum 5% bio-diesel", not sure if that is the same as Premium.

i heard that all diesel in canada is 2% bio already, with plans to make it 5% in a few years

Its pretty much the only fuel I run. Truck runs nice, low smoke , and super easy cold starts.

On a related note...recently started using Howes Meaner Kleener as an additive, and it seems to have cleared up a lot of my smoke even before I've had a chance to run Diesel Purge through it. It took about a tank to see the difference, but I really think there has been a significant improvement. It's also supposed to improve fuel economy...we'll see what numbers I get on this tank.

DIlution for this product is 1cc/1L, and with the size of bottle that it comes in, it's almost twice the price of regular Howe's Diesel Treat.

So you're using the Meaner Cleaner instead of the Diesel Treat, not in addition to?

Yup...IIRC what's missing with the Meaner Cleaner (sp?) is the anti-gel. But as the world now knows due to our Olympic coverage...there's no bloody snow in Vancouver! :D It was what...12*C today? I was driving around with my windows down with no sweater or jacket! This will be the only winter Olympics where spectators may show up in shorts and t-shirts.

We've been running Shell V-Power Diesel the last few months (I had been using Husky and Mowhawk) and I have noticed the same thing on both the 12HT and 13BT. No additive used on top.

I have used the howes diesel treat since tank 2 in my truck.
the truck runs smoother, better fuel economy. I am sold on the stuff. I might concider getting a bottle of that meaner cleaner and giving it a try.

i use 150mls above 0 degrees celcius (per tank)
and 300mls below 0 degrees celcius for the howes (per tank)

i've used lucas, howes meaner cleaner and diesel treat, lynn corp (?), and now i'm on gen 49D (with antigel, and everything else)...with all the above, i really couldn't tell a difference, at least there was piece of mind that something was getting cleaned and antigelled.. i'm liking the gen 49D by powerup b/c it's got the lowest additive to fuel ratio (8ml/10L) and a 5L jug's lasted me a long long time. i guess it's doing a good job, same job as the howes? :meh: i know my 1hdt ran beautifully all the way to the west coast and back to the big smoke.

a local injector pump guru's big on stanadyne, maybe i'll try that next but it uses quite a bit for a fill up and costs more...

i went this way after the 2 bottles of howes b/c it combines both in one.. looks like good reviews from big industry using serious diesel engines..

i use petrocanada diesel or can. tire cuz of points/can.tire money..:hillbilly:

I asked Shell about Shell V-Power a while ago and was told that it had additional bio in it plus "special additives". I tend to run either Husky diesel or Superstore diesel. I did a little research two years ago on Superstore diesel and was told that it came from the Coop refinery in Alta or Manitoba where they only refine sweet Canadian crude. Not sure if that is still true today. Every tank gets a splash of Power Service's "Diesel Kleen". I had been uing Stanadyne's for years. However, I noticed a little smoke so decided to give another brand a try. Also, Power Service's products are all bio compatible while Stanadyne's aren't. Within one bottle, the smoke was gone and the power <if you can use that term on a NA diesel> was back. Crappy Tire sells it and sometimes you can find the big bottle at nearly 50% off.

In Dec I had a good chat with an IP tech from a local diesel injection shop about additives and your IP. In his opinion, it wasn't so much a question of which product you used with a rotary IP but that you consistently used a lubrication additive in each tank. He said the get quite a few come in and complaining that their IP failed early. The common denominator is that all of them didn't start using a lubrication additive or just used it intermitently until they had a feeling something was wrong.

I was told by a guy in the industry that all Canadian diesel has bio in it for lubrication. He said the % can be different from one brand to the next.

We got a letter from Esso before christmas, stating that all diesels must have a certain amount of bio diesel in Canada by january first 2010.
I keep my own bulk diesel at home, so we received a ltter to notify us.
But I need to try to find that letter or a copy of it, because they also warned of problems with the fuel, in old tanks or if they mixed or something like that. If I remembe correctly it had to do with something like bacteria or algae growth in the tank..

Does anyone know more about that.. I have been having alot of trouble with my jetta the last two months and wondering if this had anything to do with it. One time my filter came out very discusting. With what looked like algae...

it had died three or four times.. and acted like it was gelling.

Well I heard, if they use all the canola oil grown in Canada to make bio diesel, they could barely make 2% mix in all diesel,

for 5% there better be a surplus in soybean in the states...

It is a common problem in tropical areas but can happen anywhere when you get water in your tank. Drain you tank and the I suggest you do a diesel biocide treatment in your tank with fresh diesel. You can also have your tank professionally cleaned.

That's one of the main reasons for the food crisis in the south. Productive land origonally used for food crops is now being used for oil crops for biodiesel demand throughout the world - especially Europe. One of the biggies is Palm Oil and it is taking over productive land on every continent in the South except Antartica. Add to that the demand for Ethanol (corn, sugar beet, & sugar cane) for gassers, and the world's food situation looks bleek.

How about just adding 500ml of Canola Oil per tank? Would that be enough to lube the IP?

Took my bung out of the top of the tank.. it was spotless, except for some poor spider that must have tried to live in the nozzle of the hose..Gotta give vw credit for one thing, lifting the rear seat, remove three screws and presto the top bung of the tank.
Water is not an issue, especially at minus 29..

I think I have that problem now resolved..

I've used Shell Diesel twice in my F-250 and both times an error message came up notifying me that there was water in my fuel. I will NEVER use shell diesel again.
