Hello again,

I am still in Afghanistan, but couldn't wait and had my dad pick up the 72 Cruiser for me!!! I can't wait to get home and take her for a spin.

Anyway, she has some rust in the usual spots for a 72 Cruiser and I want to replace the panels with sheet metal. Does anyone know of a good place to try and look for the sheet metal panels?? I saw the aluminum kits, but want to try and keep it more original.

Thanks!!

'78 FJ40 rebuild question for the experienced body work folk: How much problems do you have with wire-welder patched in steel? As in cut the replaced fender (accident) and use it for patch. That is, does wire welder's -6 wire cause any dissimilar metals corrosion or heat/temper hardened flex problems, etc.?

I can see two and expect more bondo/rust holes in the rocker panel on each side will appear when I sand blast... Should I cut out and insert patches if there's good enough metal around the problems, or do the whole panel because of above type problems with the repairs? Maybe go with thicker metal...

Oh, BTW, a sincere heartfelt thanks for your service to our country. We all have to not listen to the news and remember how important good people helping each other is...

As to sheetmetal, I'm going to totally avoid aluminum, lots of bad things happen in winter's ville salt bath. We're in Seattle so no salt, but some sea air. The pictures of rust induced elsewhere on the vehicle in a Rust Thread on this forum are enough to make me want to puke...
