Hi Folks

Normally I can discern the make and model of a vehicle behind me through the rear view mirror, but when I drive my BJ75 pickup, I have to hold the mirror for it to be still enough to see really well.

What gives? Can I replace a part of two in there to "stiffen/soften" it up? The ride of my truck is butter smooth in all other aspects. I will take offense if you tell me that I need to get my eyes checked.

Thanks,

I had the same issue and ended up cutting a section of fairly stiff rubber hose to substitute for part number 87827.
I cut it where it needed to be wedged in between the mirror and the glass.

What does that rubber do? Can't really figure from the scheme where it is supposed to go and how it works.
Thanks for enlightening me. Ralf

It extends from the back of the mirror to the windshield glass and serves as a vibration damper.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that rubber piece is only on the fold down models.

I’m clueless as to what vehicle has what mirror. I’m simply stating that if you have the mirror in the above diagram adding the rubber damper may help with vibration. 😁

Everyone I have touched had the rubber bumper, both fold down and fixed windshield.

At this point the socket could also be worn and a new mirror is in order (32 year old at youngest)

That rubber windsheild standoff makes all the difference in the world,
It was the first thing i stole one off my parts truck
