I've been looking around and seen some pics from Nutley's Cage thread and i noticed that he has the low profile front spring hangers and a saginaw box.

I guess i can try PMing him.

I'm sure most of you, that want to use the Proffits kit with sag steering, have noticed that they use the Downey type cast mount. I believe Jack Rice also extended his frame rail about 1.5 inches to accomadate for axle positioning. I'll be using the plate mount with the Proffits SR kit. seems the best way to solve this problem would be to extend the frame rail and not flip the springs which the same affect would be accomplished by extending the frame rail. The proper steering geometry with a sag set-up would require slightly forward positioning of the front axle anyway

BC CRUISER,
Go to a Toyota dealer and get some factory spring hangers from rear of the front springs off a 1980 FJ 40 and weld them on to the front of your frame works great and then you can use some stock FJ 60 springs with the big bushing, longer nice flex, extends wheel base. Hangers are nice and low pro.
Do you have any pictures? The Profits hangers are stout, looks like 1/4". Lots heavier than the stock rear hangers on my 75.

I think I'll keep my shackle at the front right now, and then swap them around later. Once I see how it handles after the rebuilt.

I suppose I should post the reply I gave ortayga for the masses :)

I made mine own mounting plate, I bootleged the design from butch-built a recently departed cruiserhead :frown: It mounts the box parallel to the frame as opposed to at an angle like most the production plates. There are better pictures of treeroots which is a exactly the same as mine here Another important thing to remeber is that my springs are outboarded, but I really don't think that should be an issue. Here are a few pics that I hope will help.

Notice the ps leak

bustanutley, what kind of linkage are you using for the shaft? The Flameing River u-joint I am using was binding when I tried the pump as you show it. It just did not like that sharp of an angle.

I have had a variety of front shackle and rear shackle vehicles over the years and I can't tell the difference in ride and handling as long as the steering components and alignment are in good shape. To me, the advantage of rear shackles is to maximize approach angle and to minimize the potential for damage to the springs if you hit a rock.

I was just worried that once I welded the front hanger on, the p/s box or pitman arm would hit it. I like Jack Rices idea of using the stock hangers, looks like it keeps it tight aganist the frame. But I think for right now I keep it the way it is. BTW this would be a good link to put into the FAQ

Stock hangers, saginaw at an angle

My box hangs a little lower than I'd like... the plan is to weld a box skid to the bumper & run a strut up to my winch plate. Sorry No good recent pix.
