So I moved up to Portland last week and the 80 made it all the way up here no problem. I was running errands last night and noticed the temp gauge rising fast, pulled over, shut it down and heard a horrible hissing sound and saw steam coming out from under the hood. :o

Looks like the coolant lines to the rear heater poped and is dumping all over the front driveshaft.

I don't have my tools here yet, so can anyone recommend a good shop in the Portland/Beaverton area?

If they aren't too far from you, try MetalTech.

Otherwise, hit up some of the local guys.

It should be easy to bypass the rear heater lines, and if that's all that is wrong with it you should be good to go.

Matt and Tony at Land Cruiser Northwest are who work on my truck; tell em Andy with the 97 TLC recommended you:
503-224-5115
info@landcruisernw.com
2211 NW York St.
Portland, OR 97210

Have also heard good things about Leonard's Offroad:
Leonard's Off Road, Inc
Hillsboro, OR
(503)693-8689

If it is something as simple as a hose, I would also recommend ReBorn Auto (they are generalists but do really really good work). Vincent and Rebecca run a great shop:
1800 SE M.L.King, Jr. Blvd.
Portland, Oregon 97214
Phone: 503-231-4947

email: service@rebornautomotive.com

Wow, they are really close, like a few blocks from here! Ok, trying these guys out. Thanks Andy!

Ohhh... MetalTech is up here... Maybe it's time for me to trade in my SROR sliders for some MetalTech ones. If this coolant fiasco isn't too bad maybe MY LC is getting MT sliders for Christmas. :p

Thanks for the suggestion!

x2 on Landcruiser NW...those guys are awesome. Good luck and welcome to Portland!

Yeah, I'm having them fix the leak, and also do a "new customer inspection". Better safe than sorry!

LCNW have been awesome for me also - solid guys who do good work.
