The bearing on the engine fan of my 2003 LX470 started to make noise, and actually gave out while I was showing it to the mechanic. The mechanic replaced both the
COOLING FAN MOUNT
SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER
though I don't know if the serpentine belt itself was replaced. I've just called and left a voicemail to ask if they may have, but the belt looks pretty old to my untrained eye. The ink/markings on the smooth size of belt has worn off and it just looks a bit more worn, though I don't see any huge cracks.
Maybe 100 miles after the mechanic replaced the tensioner and fan mount, the serpentine belt broke.
I got the car towed home and was able to replace the serpentine belt myself with a Continental Belt 4060882 which was not too difficult. However, it does look like the belt is moving around a bit on the tensioner. Is this normal? Is there something else wrong with my pulley system or something that was damaged when the fan belt was oscillating?
