Serious question time... My 80 is about 350 km off clocking 700 k km's still with original 1hz motor from factory. I know it will need the valve shims done plus the usually 100 k km stuff of replacement t-belt, tensioner, water pump and t-stat to make it viable for the next 100 k km's of life.
My question is this - should I bother investigating getting the current motor pulled out and rebuilt (if possible and worthwhile) or simply get it swapped with a reco engine? The cost of a 1hz+t or 1hdt or better is outside my budget scope without a lotto win so I'm limiting to just 1hz's for now.
I know zero about the motor's internal condition or the state of the head, but it still runs (was driving it today). Engine has never been disassembled or out of the vehicle since I've owned in from 2011.
I've toyed with the idea of a new 1hz but that's more than the whole vehicle is worth to buy a brand new engine (Toyota still make 1hz's).
