Does anyone run two sets of wheels if their DD is also used off road? Considering these 17" x 7" Sequoia wheels painted black for my 80. Any fit concerns?

Plenty of threads on this, just search "Sequoia Rims". Lots of people run the sequoia rim. Looks good on the 80 after painting black or dark gray.

Good luck!

Those wheels work, probably will need spacers with big tires.

I don't do the two sets of tires thing. Off road tires are best when young, as they age they get hard, don't work as well. The only way I see it working is if the rig is driven tons of miles per year, both on and off road.

as mentioned they will work and there are a couple threads about them....

that being said I have two sets of tires both on those wheels and like Kevin said its jut not reasonable to swap back and forth unless your doing lots of miles of both and DONT have a second vehicle. A garage and air tools may change your mind though.

PM me if your interested in a very low mileage set (4) wrapped in 315 BFG A/Ts if Granolalandia isnt prohibitively far from NC

They will fit but the offset is much less than the stock 80 wheels, so spacers would be needed or it will look goofy.

My stock wheels measure 4 1/2" rim edge to mount surface, my Tundra's measure 4 5/8". The Tundra's are also 1/2" narrower, so total offset difference is ~3/8".

For me the spacers were about fitting the larger tires and the deeper backspace rims helped. With stock rims the narrowest spacer is 1". With the Tundra rims and 1.25" spacers, the tire center line is about 7/8" out from stock. If I were doing it again, would go with 1" spacers, only moving the center out ~5/8" from stock, allowing for more clearance on the flare side. Every little bit helps with 37" tires.

I guess looking goofy is in the eye of the beholder, I like the look of Tundra rims on an '80, with or without spacers.:hillbilly: The only before spacers shot that I have.

I went with the FJ Cruiser wheels

I like the FJ wheels too.

I know a lot of people run spacers. Are there any concerns with additional hub bearing loads due to the offset?

I'd say it puts extra stress on your wheel bearings but I feel as long as you stay on top of things and keep an eye on your bearing preload regularly then the bulk of the build design should handle it fine. As far as looking goofy I guess thats the opinion of the viewer and also what tires you run and whether or not you have flares. Without flares the outside of the wheel/tire lines up perfectly w/ the sheetmetal w/ 315's. (see pic #2)

If I were to run 315's and no flares id probably choose no spacers.

However the flares make them look even more inboard; so with flares I would opt for the spacer to fill out the wheel well.

Running the IROK's though I like the stance without spacers. However the 13.5 width and more backspacing creates some rubbing on the frame rail in back so Ill likely get the 1'' spacer and add my flares back.

only pics i have from similar angles are on my poser rock :D so may not show well the difference in offset b/w 80 and sequoia.

I have read posts that say these rims are both 17 x 7 and 17 x7.5, which is it? Also, will 35 x 12.5 x 17 be a good size or is 315/70R/17 better? Thanks!

Mine are 17x7.5".

They would be about the same, pick your poison, 37x12.5/17 are better. :hillbilly:

I'm running a set of those wheels painted charcoal with 35/12.50 Coopers. I have wheeled with and without the spacers just fine. They just help with rubbing like others have said.

I actually like the look without the spacers.

bumping this thread.... anyone still running these sequoia rims?
