I have a '97 LX450 (black) with lockers. It's in decent shape (front driver seat has tear in leather of course). I just put new tires on it and replaced the brake pads. It has 190,000 miles on it. It's been my commuter ride for the past 5 years so very little off-roading. My wife and I are ready to start a family so we need something with a little better gas mileage (and more cup holders which is the wife's complaint). We are thinking of a Honda Pilot, Highlander, etc. (something with 4WD, 3 rows of seats, just newer, and I can't afford a newer Land Cruiser) What's a decent price that I could expect to get? I've seen prices from $5000 - $9000, but there are never very many on the market at any one time. If I can get something on the higher end, I'm more likely to sell. Otherwise, I may just replace the leather and keep on riding. I realize that it may be pretty dependent on the actual condition of my LX, but thought I'd see if it was reasonable to get $8k-$10k for it. I think a dealer would offer me ~$5k (KBB value). I live in Seattle, so it hasn't seen much salt. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

hmmm...imho - $8 to $10k is indeed possible - but you best have excellent records / service hx. (with all usual suspects addressed - all fluids valve cover, phh, dizzy o ring, oil pump & crank seal, etc...) - good paint - steering wheel fair - passenger seat good (no tears) -rear seats and 3rd row should be near cherry - tires with at least 40k of tread life - all interior electrical working - lights, doors, windows, locks - and of course engine is smooth running - with no odd sounds or rattles...

now this is coming from a mudder perspective....but someone were a "trolling" mudd - im sure they would look for these

now the down side - is if you don't have good documentation - you will loose the "mudder" market or indeed easily be in the $5000 range.
which isn't much more that what joe stealership will likely give you...

Thanks, it leaks a little oil, but not much. I have the fluids changed every 3-5k miles and have records to document it. I just had the brakes done and added new tires. I also swapped out the stock stereo for a Kenwood NAV unit a few years ago (still have the stock stereo). The body is in good shape (a few little dents/scratches, but nothing major). The biggest issue is the driver's seat leather. The 2nd and 3rd row leather is in awesome shape. no rattles in the engine. The rear passenger door lock is finicky, but sounds like that's standard and an easy fix.

hmmm - good positives....nav unit + OEM stereo also another plus....body dents expected (cars is near 20 years old)
w/o pics not sure how bad drivers seats...but doesn't sound major (is what it is and again 20 year old car)

sadly w/o maintenance records - you are not going to garner top $$$$ - anyone who is "initiated" is going to want to know about
all the aforementioned items - as well as points / plugs, wheel bearing, knuckle, etc...

if you don't know or don't have "papers" - expect a much lower starting point....

but at same it you can just put it up on craiglist for $8000 and fux it - see what bites....

Any modifications as far as suspension goes, lift kit, front/rear bumper original vs aftermarket, coolant hoses replaced, newer vs original radiator, valve cover gasket replaced, power steering noise, any grinding in any gear, check engine light on, blinking front/rear locker light, headlights upgrades, rock sliders, skid plates, differential oil and transfer case oil change documentation, headliner shape?

The more "NO" answers you get, the closer to $5000 the price will be at.

Too bad that you are up north....you have what I am looking for. My favorite color with the right options.

thought I'd see if it was reasonable to get $8k-$10k for it

As someone said before you never know until you ask. I would post it up in the classifieds and see what happens. It's so hard to imagine what condition it's in without pics. Best of luck and go for it!

And folks : if you have a valid build thread or some form of valid documenting as your fix and go is also valid. I lost a record for the rear hitch and was able to find the date and cost I paid from my very own build thread .

I did this with my mechanic friend who installed it and torqued it per the instructions

Just sold mine yesterday for $3500 with 240k miles. Sad to see it go but it will be used in Haiti - more like a retirement home for the pink panties crowd.
