My check engine light came on yesterday and after reading the owner's manual and checking to see if the gas cap was securely tightened, I dropped the truck off at the Toyota service center in Marietta GA.

I get a call back an hour later telling me that the O2 sensor is seized and that they will have to replace the driver's side manifold along with installing a new O2 sensor. All this for around $1500.00!!!

Has this happened to anyone on these forums? I can't imagine a skilled mechanic not being able to address this issue without having to pull the manifold.

By the way I have a 99 model that has no rust (for those of you thinking that perhaps I drive along beaches all day and that the severe trauma I put my truck through everyday is manifesting itself).

Long story short, I ended up calling ACC Toyota Truck and Land Cruiser in Atlanta and they said they would take a look at it. Those guys have taken good care of me in the past so I am hoping that they can somehow un-seize the sensor.

agreed on the pb plast, have used it several times in the past with awesome results. my truck is from the east coast and i have had to deal with many VERY rusty bolts...nothing a little heat and pb plast couldn't take care of. best of luck!

PB blaster, nice set of wrenches and a few beers, it will come loose. ACC can get it off, no worries.

Are you going OEM or aftermarket to replace? Hell, I'll be home tomorrow and we can pull it. Not hard at all

@2000UZJ...I'd take you up on that but I have to stay home with the baby while my better half goes to a friend's baby shower. After that it is gonna be all about the DIRTY BIRDS puttin' the smackdown on the Packers. What are you doing on Sunday?

...BTW, I have been looking at houses in Sandy Springs over the last week or so. 20th floor condo in Midtown is not cutting it with the latest addition to the family.

Sunday= cleaning unknown amounts of mud off the 100. But I'm free. I'll probably have to fix something on the 100 as well. This weekend is going to be nasty. I bit off to much I could swallow with the 100 this weekend, not really happy about it but to late to back out. Shoot me a PM if you want to meet up. Which 02 sensor is it?

If you are sure the mechanic is sure on the code: 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF works better than PB for me; then as others have stated put some flame to it (make sure you let that acetone mix or PB evap before setting fire to your truck)...and you should be able to get it out.

And if you truly can't get it out and need a manifold I'd give serious thought to the DT headers instead...

My '99 came from Rochester NY so you're preaching to the choir on the rust thing .

According to the service tech, it is the driver's side. I am going to check around and see if I can locate an OEM part tomorrow.

Well, at least you smelled the bullsh*t before you stepped in it.

I hate crappy dealerships.

I just replaced the bank 2 sensor 1 this morning, took all of 30 mins. I've got a '99 with 145k miles. Sensor came out no problem. I hit it with PBB but really don't think it needed it.

Definitely get another mechanic to look at it if your not going to do it yourself.

BTW, $60 for the sensor, $10 for the sensor socket. Dealer quoted $400.

I got an O2 sensor I need to off load. (OEM Bank 1) PM me if you want it and I'll make you a deal:beer:

I would NOT listen to anyone that wants to use aftermarket O2's. I remember a very long story on the 80 board. Plus, there are x4 O2's total in the system and why not have them all match the same manufacturer? Saving a few bucks to buy a sub par part that is not tested for long term durability doesn't add up to me.

Toyota didn't have any in-stock and wanted 198 bucks for the OEM one, was going on a trip the following day and picked up a Bosch. I was a little nervous but it hasn't given me any problems. I'm not worried if it goes out, they have a lifetime warrantee, which I may ignore and go back to OEM

$198???? Cruiser Dan hooked me up for $110+ a couple bucks shipping. I was going to replace the front 2 at the same time, but noticed the PS one was already replaced when I got under the LC and started :wrench:

BTW- I was just reading your ARB 03+ front bumper thread. Might bring up a question there...

My dealer also wanted $554 for a new CV axle, I purchased one from Dan for 315. Toyota parts do not have price regulation, meaning dealers can jack the priced up as high as they want.

let me know if you have any questions about the arb.

IIRC someone just recently posted about Amazon having Denso O2s for $68. Should be OEM, right?

They might be or ....they might be all the Denso's that were returned by Toyota for not passing spec.

Denso is an OEM supplier but that doesn't mean every thing they make is OEM quality.
