Seized O2 sensor

I worked at Sanden International previously. They are the OEM ac compressor supplier to Honda/Acura. Believe me, we made aftermarket parts and we made OEM parts. Even from the same supplier doesn't equal same quality. But I would say if you are going to buy aftermarket, might as well go with the Denso brand.

I just replaced the bank 2 sensor 1 this morning, took all of 30 mins. I've got a '99 with 145k miles. Sensor came out no problem. I hit it with PBB but really don't think it needed it.

Definitely get another mechanic to look at it if your not going to do it yourself.

BTW, $60 for the sensor, $10 for the sensor socket. Dealer quoted $400.

What tools do I need to attempt this at home? I stopped by ACC this morning but it looks like they are closed for MLK day.

I am at Advance Auto Parts right now picking up PB Blaster. Hopefully I can get the sensor off by myself and then order the OEM O2 sensor and have it installed by Wednesday. Thanks for all the feedback. If this works it will definitely beat paying $1400.00 to the Dealership.

ACC is closed on Monday's and I used a open end wrench.

That's the site I used as a reference. My 2cents after completing the ds front O2 that made this job gravy.
1- Put the truck up on ramps for adequate room
2- remove that little clamp/bracket by the O2 sensor, which will give your hands plenty of room to work in there. The clamp/bracket only has one bolt to remove.

I still have the OEM bank 1 sensor if you want it.

One more thing...According to my invoice from the dealership, the 062 Function Test System found code PO135. Bank 1 Sensor 1 O/2 Sensor bad.

Can someone point me to this location (with a pic)?

Found this on Monkeeworks.com. Is it accurate for the 2UZ-FE? Lexus LX470 (Toyota Landcruiser) Oxygen Sensor: Part 2 (Repair)

I placed my OEM bottle jack underneath the main skid and lifted the whole truck 2". Wheels still on ground, I then put jack stands on frame. Gave enough room to get hands in there and didn't need to pull wheel. Worked great.

I have a 2" lift with 305's.

I bought the socket, your more then welcome to use it if you need to. I am close to ACC in town. It was a huge help in changing one of mine. If we are talking about an oxygen sensor....

Thanks for the offer (and everyone else who offered to help) but after reading about having to take the engine under cover off to get to sensor, I figured I would just let ACC take a look at it. I live in a high-rise so I don't have jack stands, or a suitable workspace to accomplish this repair in my parking garage.

I humbly took the cruiser to ACC, handed over the newly purchased can of PB Blaster, surrendered my keys, went home and started looking furiously for a house in the burbs with a big a$$ garage where I would be able to replicate all of these repairs I read about on Mud.

To wrap this thread up, I just picked up my truck from ACC. O2 sensor has been replaced. The guys there showed me the old sensor and reported that the threads on the manifold side were fine. There was a little bit of galling on the threads of the sensor but that it required minimal effort to remove it.

All-in-all, ACC saved me $1100.00 off the Toyota dealership quote which included replacing the manifold.

Here is a picture of the bad sensor. Do you guys think the dealership was just trying to extort me?

Extort, no. Extortion is a criminal offense which occurs when a person unlawfully obtains either money, property or services from a person(s), entity, or institution, through coercion.

There was no coercion. They were merely taking advantage of you.

You cant go wrong with ACC,
you don't have to live in the burbs for a large garage , I have one but cant park in it. Too many toys.

Marietta Toyota / Scion - Proudly [STRIKE]serving[/STRIKE] screwing Atlanta, Marietta, Kennesaw, North Atlanta, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Canton, Acworth, Woodstock, Alpharetta, Cobb County, Fulton County, and North Georgia

Service Department is collecting a lot of low marks at Yelp and the common denominator is dishonesty

Marietta Toyota - Marietta, GA

"I get an estimate for my headlight at $630. They said I needed a new ECU along with the HID lamp and that they needed to take my bumper off in order to change the light. So, I took it to my mechanic a couple miles from there...Turns out I didn't need the ECU and you don't have to take the bumper off for fixing the light. So, there estimate was a bit off... it actually cost me 100 bucks."

"I had gone to Marietta Toyota a few times for oil changes on my Toyota Corolla with few instances of being told I needed other costly repairs. The last time I went in July, 2010, I was told I needed a new water pump which cost $600. I didn't have the funds so I decided to go to another place (Toyotechs) which was recommended to me. Those guys checked it out and I did not need a water pump. "

Yahoo reviews aren't much better ...

"Beware of their service department."

"I have never met a more NO-CUSTOMER SERVICE department in my life. The cashiers must have been on a work release program. Mine didn't give me the credit for my coupon and the other cashier accused the customer next to me of trying to use a fraudulent credit card before she realized it was a debit card."

and at Edmunds they are 0 for 3 ...

"Not trustworthy" ( and he gave them 3 stars!)

Kudzu is a little better .... only two complaints of a dishonest service department in 13 reviews.

Read up on TacomaWorld what Sandy Springs Toyota did with my 100 on a oil change, they didn't change the oil filter, charged me and did not tell me. Talk about a f'ing retarded staff. I will never go there again. They also called me to say they needed to remove my "ABR" bumper. :censor: them and :censor: dealerships.

April Offroading in GA - Page 2 - Tacoma World Forums

Starts on post #25, I come in on the next page pissed beyond belief, printed it out and took it to the dealership a few weeks later, they said they will perform complimentary oil changes, I refused and told them I will go to ACC and they can pay them, since I cannot trust the service dept...

NEVER GO TO DEALERSHIPS,NEVER TRUST THEM.

IIRC someone just recently posted about Amazon having Denso O2s for $68. Should be OEM, right?

RockAuto Auto Parts has the best prices on Denso sensors, I got one for $60 I think. Rock Auto really has the best prices on just about anything. Highly highly recommended.

+1 for Rock Auto, used them for years with no complaints...but since we have access to Beno and CDan through the forum, I think that's probably the best route to go if you want true OEM stuff.
