Seat rattling in new 2013 Cruiser

My first post on the forum. I've had my new 2013 LC for a few weeks now and love everything about it but I'm pretty irritated with how loose the 2nd row seats are. I've tried to mitigate the problem by placing rubber tape around the D rings and placing large, thick sponges underneath the seats to limit motion. It has helped tremendously but not entirely solved the problem. The 3rd row seats are much more stable and do not rattle at all. I've noticed on other threads that this is not a new problem and I'm really surprised that Toyota hasn't yet solved this problem. Does anyone else have any ideas?
 
Take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it and that you won't pick it up until its right. Thats what the warranty is for! Oh yea, post up some pics of that bad boy!
 
Dealer told me sorry, thats the way a Land Cruiser is.........
 
In my experience, the rattling has been the headrests on the 2nd row, but only if they are not in the lowest position. I always keep mine in the lowest position and it eliminates rattles.

On a similar note, my 2nd row conveniently squeaks a bit when the leather needs to be treated with a leather conditioner :grinpimp:
 
Ahhh my pet peeve in the LC. The odd sounds emanating from f"ck all mysterious places. :mad::mad::mad::mad:. MY LC has been torn apart and built back up from the frame by third world mechanics. SO all Toyota perfectness was eliminated when I received my car. My OCDness is noticeable here

First and foremost. I installed dynamat to everything. Doors, hood, floor, roof, fenders. This did an amazing job. I highly recommend this upgrade for ultimate silence.

Second. I glued pieces of carpet to all leather surfaces that had contact or rubbed with something. Especially the divider in the middle of the fold down seats in the 2nd row. Squeaky mfer right there.

Third. I placed rubber washers and extended the bolts for all seats.

Forth. On the hooks that latch down on the fold down sections I wrapped the steel loops with a thin rubber tape. (kinda like duct tape but more resistant)

Fifth. The seat belts buckles, I had pieces of velvet glued to the sections that had contact with any hard plastic.

Sixth. I cut and glued beer coozies (not sure what the real word is) and fit them in all cup holders. There was always an odd beer bottle from the weekend rattling around in the back.
 
My cruisers are 20 plus years old and don't rattle ! Mike
 
There's no zero rattle car out there based on my experience. To my own fault because I'm commitment challenged, I've gone through a number of new vehicles in the past three years. These include the Range Rover, Lexus, Porsche and even a Tahoe Hybrid.

Every single one had some sort of interior noise. Light squeaks, clanks, ticks fall under the rattle umbrella. If your hearing sucks, then all the more power to you - drive in bliss. My hearing is awesome.

So instead of getting bugged out about it, I weigh the pros/cons of trying to get the ride rattle free. If you're not one to wrench yourself (me) and your car is under factory warranty, no matter how official or trusted the technician, there sits a chance you'll get some odd scratch, unexplained ding, stain, whatever. Ticks me off to no end but it happens all the time. Like on my door handle. I have light scratches on it. Brand new car. Likely from wedding rings. I'm a bachelor. I don't wear rings.

Now that my suspension is sorted (knock on wood), my LC is a cocoon atm but I'm sure I'll hear something some day. Just pump up the volume.

I have those same door handle scratches. Nobody who drives the car has wedding rings either. I have never valeted the car ever too. Must be the nails.
 
I wish Toyota would've chosen to use a soft touch material instead of the hard plastic on the door handle. But then if you had leather on there like the Rover did, it would get shiny or show patina. Pick your poison.

Sorry so pansy sounding. It's a Land Cruiser, damn it! :D

What does your therapist say about all this? AWESOME if he's a gear head.

Two of them but my car is at one of them right now and I now the tech is a Mud Member. I have yet to find a dealer to treat the Land Cruiser with the respect it deserves. After all it's an 80K vehicle and I don't want to sound like a wuss either but my 100 never rattled.

Grab your second row seat by the back near the headrest and give them a good shake. I bet everyone a beer yours rattles too. Test drove LX570s and they shake too!

I resorted to putting peices of cardboard underneath, I would love to know someone's trick of taking up the slack. I've kind of given up.

I'm trying to track down a suspension rattle now that my dealer says is NORMAL!! Think I'm fed up??
 
Instead of cardboard using carpet insulation. It's cheap and works well.
