So I owe this forum another one for setting me up with one genuine ARB Bullbar. SWEET.

I ran a search of the ARB install, but came up with discussion regarding mounts, not actually putting it on. Anything I should know before I go at it?

I'll be installing this thing in the parking lot of a reseller, (600 miles away from home) as I have no way to carry her to my shop. Any experience/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you measure the distance between your frame rails to be sure they are in spec so you don't have a surprise in the parking lot

as discussed here before, the ARB will fit in the back of the 80, *even* in the box! :D

It will fit in the back, if you are not full of other stuff. If you have someone helping it will be eaisier. I read a post about install about a week befor I put mine on and it really helped. Make sure you get all the bolts in before you tighten them down. When you have some bolts in you need to lift and push the bumper around to get the rest of the bolts to fit. In the post I read they tightened them down first, and couldn't get some to fit. They had to loosen up the ones they had tightened. Spray some penetrating oil on your bumper bolts a few days before you want to take it off. It took me about an hour and a half to take my old bumper off and put the new one on. Good luck, you will love the look of your new bumper:grinpimp:

Aside from a weird surprise with the rails or the fit, this is about as easy to put on as one can hope for. Trivial. Maybe a tad easier to have somebody help you lift it in place, but even that may not be necessary IIRC.

Any idea what spec is? .

My frame rails measured 25 21/32nds (a hair over 5/8's) inside to inside. Outside to outside is 30 1/8th. The outside measurement is the more critical of the two.

My ARB fit snug but did not take any adjustments of either the bumper mounts or the frame rails to get it on. I was able to lift it up onto an old table chair and then push the chair close to the rails, lift the bumper another few inches, and slide it on by myself. (I don't have any friends :hillbilly)

Keep in mind that you could be also be dealing with variation in the bumper itself as any manufacturing process has variation.

Other than being heavy, install is as easy as a whore house on dollar day. (Did I just say that?)

EDIT: For light hook up: Post #4 in https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=48776&highlight=arb+marker

bring a large dead blow, the frame rails move small distances surprisingly easy,

I think most of the miss-fit is from small (5mph) collisions moving the frame around slightly.

Overhead hoist makes it really easy job. (20 min)

If you are comfortable in knowing the front end has never been in an accident, the bumper should slide onto the frame rails very easily. Make sure you have the correct size ratchets (17mm, 18mm and 19mm I think) Don't worry about the electrical hookup until you get home. 12 bolts and you are done! All into existing holes with existing nuts welded into the frame.

If frame has a little salt rust, you may want to take some liquid wrench, WD 40 or similar and some steel wool to clean up the frame rail just in case. Probably won't be necessary tho.

I do love it.......Brent has come a long way from a golfer to a wrench.....:D

Congratulations my friend..

Thank you Sir! That is indeed a compliment coming from you! :D

...and the truck has never looked better. Love that lift!

Not a bad job, I did our TJm on the wifes 4runner in no time by myself. I take it you are swapping bumpers with the seller? If not just remove your stock bumper b/f you leave to save time.

Yup, I plan on removing everything but two bolts before I leave.

Thanks to all of you. This info will be the major force of the arsinal supply. Okay, so this thing was stored in a warehouse for a few years. Out of the box, no instructions, although NEW. (display I think) What should come with it? How many bolts, and if possible, anyone know what size they are? Wouldn't it be great if I found that the bolts were missing, or were the wrong ones... uh. I plan on calling them to see about the bolts but I just thought I'd ask some of you experienced ARB installers. ; )

MoJ - thanks for the measurements. I'll pull the OEM off and check them this week. Looks like the bumper WAS replaced, so I'm a little worried. Sound like an easy fix though as described above with the proper hammer.

a comealong and a hilift will allow you to adjust the rails easily enough...
