I'm sure I'm missing this in search, but I'm wondering where you guys have tapped for the plate light. I thought about the trailer wiring harness, but seemed kinda hokey.

I just spliced into the passenger side reverse light through the plastic cap that the trailer harness comes through on the body. Its tucked up there, u can see it when u sit under the rear and stick ur head where the spare was on the passenger side.

Not a Sean's bumper but I pulled the wiring for the original plate light out of the bottom of the tailgate and rerouted.

I always just use the original wire and extend it out to where i need it. But i reuse the one of off the tailgate. I just move it to the bumper / tire carrier / or whatever .

I hadn't thought of opening tailgate up. Is the reroute pretty straight forward? Not with my truck at the moment. Is there a factory hole or grommet to go through?

I did the tailgate too, the original light. Easy to do. Pop off the trim panel then you have lots of room to find the wiring harness for the license plate light. Use a light/circuit test to find the right wire and splice. Then use your creativity to get the wire out to the rear bumper.

In the pics you can see the plate light wiring that is inside the tailgate. Of course, my tailgate is cut up in the top two pics (for a WagonGear lid). That one connector should come apart so you can then easily pull the wiring out of the bottom of the tailgate and hook it up to your rear swing-out/carrier. In the bottom pic the gate has not been cut yet, so that is the view you will see when you pop off the carpet (trim panel) on the inside of the gate. Hope that helps.

Great thanks!

I stole the wiring from original license plate bracket on tailgate and rerouted it inside a wire loom to a license plate light that I got off of ebay.

after installing it, I realized that it was covering the top portion of my TEXAS- so, I went to the hardware store and bought 2 wire loom brackets that I just straightened out and used as brackets to raise the light a little above the plate. bolts right to the Sean plate screws that hold the license plate on.

There's a 3-pin connector under mine that I assume is for the OEM trailer harness. One of the pins is running lights, and one is reverse. That's what I'm using for my license plate light, and through a relay, my auxiliary backup light.
