I have come across a problem I never noticed until I got to Fl. I have found that water makes it through the hood in the gap at the center of old hoods where they are just pinched together. Unfortunately, I put many chrome parts when I did the v8 on this one. I also get an accumulation of water on the manifold. Living on the water means there tends to be some salt in it too.Hood is already painted. I am thinking seam-sealer or silicone. Any good suggestions from experienced LV restorers?

Seam sealer should do the trick and adhere longer than silicone if properly applied.

Use the 3m seam sealer. Is like 20$ a tube but works awesome

will do

So, seam sealer is the way to go. Will seam sealer need to be "sealed" by painting. Would prefer to mask off the area and run it in the crease rather than having to repaint the hood.

Welcome to the hot humid salt air, Dukes, you better keep your rig in a garage!

it would be better cost effective to just buy a permeable cover that would not allow the water to settle within the seam if a garage is out of the question

seam sealing the split hood would have been perfect before paint. If you don't want to repaint, I don't think the seam sealer should be considered. I'm not sure if it's suggested seam sealer be used without covering with paint?, maybe someone can confirm

I have used a few Seam sealers and most are tough but I think they are meant to be top coated. Plus the color is not likely to match what ever your hood is. Don't remember, but do the halves bolt together? Can you unbolt, cover in SS and bolt back together, then wipe off SS that queues out w lacquer thinner?

Ps it dries very fast so if u use it, be fast.
