Yes you can, it's only there to help aid in viewing the fuel level as a background. Not necessary at all, but it looks cool especially the brighter blue one. I have the lighter grey/ blue one on my mid year 66 FJ45.

Paul, A friend of mine has used heat very slowly and with caution. I'm not sure of the process but I know he also uses some clamps that he can tighten up slowly. There are a few here on mud that may chime in. I'll try to find out the process for you. It will be a while though.

Thanks. I want to make it right.

Big window carbs are cool and getting rare. I didn’t want to take a chance breaking mine, so I sent it to Mark’s Off Road and had him take care of it as part of a complete rebuild. Not as affordable as doing it yourself, but safer, and the carb is now awesome. Runs like a top.

How much did your carburetor rebuild cost, oregon fj?
I don’t want to try to “quote” prices for Mark here on the public forum. Inevitably someone would try to hold him to that several years from now. I’d recommend calling him to get the basic info, and bear in mind that things may change (+$) once he sees and touches the subject carb.

Just seems like if a man is proud of a product, and if he suggests that product to others, that he would be equally proud to say how much it costs.

But apparently not.

Difference between a “product” and a “service”. Price of a product will be fairly stable, a service price will vary depending on how much work is necessary. In case of a service, best to contact the service provider.

Yes, I’m pleased with the service I received, and am ok with the price I paid. I’m just sharing those experiences. Interested parties should inquire directly to Mark.

My fuel bowl is warped, anyone have any tricks to strenghten it.
Put it in the press with a press finger inside the bowl. It will straighten out. No heat necessary, the lead-zinc alloy is dead soft (which is why it's so distorted).
