the CV; miss the CZ
decided against pioneer touch-screen (for now) in the lx450 and opted to go with the scion pioneer t1819
have all harnesses minus the mic at this point but think may have workaround for that
was originally going to use (TRY) original telephone control (need translator or extra resistor board?)
NOTE: yea, it's for old bus
Decided to use (Try) later model lexus steering wheel control (w illumination)
will use newer steering wheel as it is control ready (prefer original steering wheel but later remote controller and original telephone controller are not same size and not interchangeable)
t1819 has bluetooth, hd radio, sat (w module) remote aux+usb (data+charge) and 12v out.
o yea also has sub out👍
plan on replacing the ipod slot on remote aux panel with pair of usb/usb-c inputs (charge only)
could not find pin-outs for the original pioneer kex-p9066zt but looking at ewd this is what i came up with for the two pins i needed to id (to help trace the wires, not using original head unit)
i'm at point of having located the 2 telephone wires from clockspring at junction u58 under steering column behind dash - but lose them at factory connector behind radio - then studying the schematic remembered i had removed the cd changer 😑

this is where i'm at
cd changer has been misplaced but prefer to keep as simple as possible so went ahead and made leads to go direct from junction under steering column to connector at rear of t1819
this does away with having to deal with the cd changer
(although i do have the t1819 connector for sat/cd changer...hmmm)
now just have to find terminals for swc1+ and swc- that fit into junction connector under steering wheel - need to de-pin two existing wires for the direct leads
there is a lead for SPD but can't see what the t1819 would do with that 🤔

at the top
original wiring for telephone controller has black and green wires.
Black will carry SWC- and Green will carry SWC1+

deleted earlier schematic as had radio/player R1(A) and R2(B) mixed up*
this should now be correct
photo shows factory white and gray plugs that went into original radio.
these are no longer used when running extended harness from by-passed factory remote-amp to t1819 (lx450)
already plenty of info on extension harnesses so leaving that part out.
White connector = R1(A) red outline
Dark Gray connector = R2(B) blue outline
*this may explain a lot😵‍💫

i'll go ahead and throw this in here while i give the eyes a rest from studying schematics 😵‍💫
original lx radio brackets went missing/lost
looked thru some brackets on hand and settled on this non-original pair. if you look closely you might notice i swapped L & R sides and that they are attached upside down. was only way to make it work
also had to drill couple holes each side (the brackets not the t1819), cut off lower ear w hole each side, tacked them back on and notched lower mount hole each side.
bit of work but saved having to order correct brackets - kinda crazy but works and bolts up just like original brackets
You might also notice 'don't lose stuff' is kind of a running theme.

so if by chance you find yourself missing the original radio mount brackets this is the set i used for the t1819 ("L" "R" side designation stamped on bracket)
installed brackets:
L, 86212-89111
R, 86211-89111

alternate brackets (shown in pic):
L, 86212-04020
R, 86211-04030

to make work:
cut double-hole tab down to the bend to create 2 tabs; bend larger-hole tab forward, drill 7/32" hole @ about center of flattened bend; notch smaller-hole tab;
swap sides opposite of designation on each bracket (Left to right, Right to left),
turn each reversed-side bracket upside-down,
maybe slightly tweak angle of new "upper" hole-tab for best flat fit to mount surface;
install radio :)

I've got one of the touchscreen models and the expansion module on the way. We'll see if I figure out how to make it all work. It's not exactly the most modern system available, but it matches the 80 series aesthetic well enough. I'm old enough, I learned to navigate with paper maps, so most of the time I don't really want DIRECTIONS from a GPS, I just want a map with my location that I can occasionally glance at.

Similarly, I don't need to car stereo to be symphonic quality, but I'd prefer it didn't sound like the fleet Ford pickup AM radio option from the 80s. Toyota put 9 speakers in my rig and somehow they're all terrible - though some of the blame for that might be age. Most of the time I'm just listening to podcasts from my phone anyway, but it would be nice to have something tolerable when I want it.

Anything would be better than the "Blue light special" Clarion that's currently in it. It's great that industry developed blue LEDs, but I really wish manufacturer's hadn't chose to use quite so many for a few years there. I don't appreciate a welding arc sharing my cab with me.

think have these id'd
looking for least intrusive path, may have to give up illumination at control pad
straight swap of cc switches to include leads for steering wheel control pad not so straight forward:
lx450 has 3-wire cruise control switch, uses GND, CMS and CCS to cc ecu
sc430 uses 2-wire switch - switch uses only EEC and CCS to cc ecu
found that others elsewhere have come across this prob when doing steering wheel swaps
(newer steering wheel pictured above has single-stage airbag and passes safety recall per VIN search)
SO, thinking keep factory cruise control switch but marry steering wheel control
one thing haven't found on schematics is blue "bridge" wire between cc switch and steering wheel control: what do cc switch & remote control have in common🤔

ok i'm back
have not repaired broken buttons but may attempt to transplant unused side buttons noted in earlier post
next up is bench test of controls to t1819 using borrowed remote control from sc400
