Those of us at the Christmas party talked about running schubarth road the third Saturday in January. Just curious if anyone is still planning on making it out. Thought i would post for those who need a little time to plan.

Trevor, you bringing the 4runner or the 40? I thought about bringing my stock '88 if the snow is not too bad. Would need a pull every now and then, but that makes it fun!

40 i think.. Depends on the snow we get, but i scored some Chains for my 37's so i want to test those out!

last year we had enughf snow that a stocker without lockers would be no fun..

I plan on attending. Hope we get some snow this week.

I'm in.

i had way too much fun yesterday with FrontRange4x4 on China wall with my Stock 4 runner.. so i think ill be taking that unless we get alot of snow!

I was planning to go until tonight, finally got the truck running good and I grenaded the rear ring and pinion on the way home:bang: Anyone got a narrowed D60 laying around?

Andy, you have nothing but bad luck with that rear end.. Maybe a V6 third this time? there has to be some issues with your housing or 3rd or locker or somthing.. Many people beat on these with no issues..

I "may" get the chance to go down to Raton, NM to check out a new off road park on Saturday, so if that happens, im going! if not, ill see you guys at western!

What is the meet/leave time from Western? 8:30/9:00?

New guy here. I have no chains any advice on how my 80 is equipped, see sig? How long of a trail run do you think it will be?

thanks

CO_Hunter, Welcome! I don't think we will have very much snow to go through on this run so you should do just fine.

Well, we had a good time on the Schubarth trail run. We had a big turn out with three V8 powered 40's, three 4Runnners, two 80's and one 60. The weather was great! The snow wasn't a problem but we did have a few spots that were a little tricky and a few spots that took a couple of tries to get through the snow. We had number of trees to deal with. Vic took care of one large tree by winching off the trail. We used Luke's ax to take care on one. Drove around one large tree. This battle was not one sided however, Gary had a run in with a tree that left him with a momento of the trip on his left front fender and Vic had a stump sneek up and modify his right rear quarter panel. A few of us came home with DNA samples of the various trees along the way but nothing that won't wash off or buff out if your into that sort of thing. I didn't have my camera but I hope some of the others will post pictures of the trip.

That was truly on of the more fun trail rides I have been on, makes you realize sometimes it's not all about climbing over the biggest rock, or navigating the deepest crevice, just a lot of good company and the beauty of the outdoors. The snow depth was perfect, as was the weather. It was fun to hear all the engines revving to high RPM's, seeing snow fly, and watching the guy in front of you thinking "I didn't think he was gonna make that". good times. Have to do that again next year!

It truly was an enjoyable trip, cruising with the windows down on a warm, sunny winter day on new trails I had not completed before. When Gary's tire smacked the tree and bounced off with no structural damage, it reminded me of the Jeep that was with us a couple of years ago on the same run. It's left front tire smacked a tree in an identical fashion and it broke the steering gear sector shaft. Watching Gary was entertaining whereas watching the Jeep was gruesome.

Here are a couple of pics. Thanks for showing the new guy a good time. By the way does anyone recall which road we were on when we stopped at that rock outcrop, a friend was asking?

good to hear from you, Leon right? we hope you don't stay a new guy for long. that rock outcropping is on 313. great place to take pics. not marked on most maps, you just take schubarth road (307) and 313 is off that.
