I received an email from Jim Jinesta (CSC4W) about 4x4 volunteers to support moving Ascent & Marathon volunteers up and down the mountain. (@Goslow and I did this two years ago). The "working days" are in late September--Friday 19th, Saturday 20th, and Sunday 21st. You can volunteer for one day, two days, or all three days. There are multiple "runs" each day. The Ascent race is on Saturday, the Marathon is on Sunday.
Generally, the 4x4 volunteers link up with the "hiking" volunteers at a designated parking lot in Manitou Springs. Then, the 4x4's convoy up Ute Pass to the (normally locked) gate to access the dirt road network including Longs Ranch Road, No Name Road, Bob's Road. 4x4 drivers take their passengers to designated spots for drop-off (or pickup on Sunday).
When @Goslow and I did this a couple of years ago, we had a good time, met nice peeps, and spent the afternoon below Brown's Camp with volunteers from EP County SAR, cheered for runners passing by, etc.
If you're interested, reply here and I"ll send you the email from JJ that contains specific details.
