The 18th is a Holiday so may want to think about 24th as an alternative. Some may have other plans for a three day weekend. Just a thought...

I have my reasons for the 1/16 date. Who travels in January, anyway?? Guess we'll see. What was it you said about a "new rope", Luke? :) Besides, the 25th is a Monday... :-)

I thought the Jan Schubarth run was a holiday.

I had a blast yesterday. I took a bunch of video and I will try to edit/post up soon. Unfortunately, my exhaust took a beating from running hard and getting sprayed with a bunch of snow. I got to i25 and garden of the gods on the way home from the run and it let go...I'm thinking there is some flowmaster and lots of welding in my near future.

Wow. It was probably more from the motor torquing from side to side on the mounts. I'm pretty good at exhaust work if you need a hand. I installed the systems on both my Toyota and my Cherokee. I highly recommend the flowmaster 50 series. The 40 and 44 series are just obnoxious with the droning. I have a 50 series on my Cherokee, as well as every other 4x4 I've ever had. Love the way they sound.

Thanks, Luke. I'm thinking 50 series, too. How did you build your last system? I'm trying to figure out if I want to buy a bunch of mandrel bends and butt weld everything, have a shop do it, or buy a cheap bender and try my luck with crush bends (but less welding), etc...weighing my options.

I had two systems, from two Cherokees, so I had a lot of good pipe to work with. On the toyota, I bought pieces and parts from O'reilly auto and made it all work. I looked into buying hot rod kits from summit racing and Jegs, they were pretty high.

Rodney had his done at a place called the "muffler shop" on St Vrain. He got a generic magnaflows, a high flow cat, and all the pipe installed for $250. Really professional job. Have to weigh all the options. with how thorough you are, you'll make the right choice.

Thanks for the exhaust advice, Luke. I have a flowmaster 50 series, a collection of mandrel bends and pipe, hangers, adapters, and clamps on the way. I will post up the project when I get started this weekend.

Nice footage/montage of the Schubarth trail run :steer: Andrew! Can we vote you in as video journalist for the club? Looking forward to more runs this year.

If you've got some really hard spots to reach, or you start burning through, my favorite trick is to cut about and 1 1/4 sliver of pipe, then pie cut a section out so you can compress it and fit it inside the pipe. Sort of like an internal coupling. Helps having a backer to weld to, and makes the butt joint stronger. The tiny bit of internal diameter you lose is negligible. My other piece of advice is that the pipe cannot be too clean. Sand all of the alumanized coating off, and clean the inside too, because any junk will bubble to the top of the molten weld puddle. Clean, clean, clean.
