I don't have the parts in front of me to answer this idea.

Is the spline count on a rear output stock t-case match the 3 or 4 speed tranny spline count?

Basically could you put the drum brake over the tranny output shaft and they would match up?

Where am I going with this you ask? If you grenade your t-case and needed to get the cruiser off the trail could you yank the drum brake off the t-case and put it on the tranny output shaft and bolt the rear drive shaft up to it.

I know this is a crazy idea. The driveshaft won't be long enough, I think. But you could always lossen the ubolts over the spring pins and push the axle forward.

The point is how to get the cruiser off the trail with no t-case or half of one.

Whats the spline count of the tranny output ona 3, 4 speed? What's the spline count on a front or rear output shaft or the pinions on fj40 cruisers?

iirc 16 on a 4 speed, the later ones with a split case were 19 and the drum brake is like a 10.

i don't know what the spline count of the split case parking brakes are. They might work. You would still have to find a way to secure it to the output shaft though.

With a tow strap and the other truck, because you do not ever go out alone.

Split case parking brake drum is fine spline and larger than then one-piece case units...

Hmmm I wonder if something could be rigged.

I'll pull all the parts out from a t-case and see if I can come up with something.

Always up for a challange.:ban:

Use the starter motor to pull you out.

has worked for me in a pinch. but really short distances.

Will not work so well when the transfer case is split into two pieces......

If you're really worried about this scenario happening, why not plan for the worst and carry an extra front-half of your rear driveshaft with an extended length to cover your transfer case loss;).

You might want to pack a bunch of fluids and a light source along with a lrg. toolbox:p:beer:.

It seems as though we could get ourselves in an endless situation of problems, it's walking the fine line of problems and solutions that define us:hhmm::beer:.

p.s. for those of us wondering I haven't yet figured out that equation either, best of luck

Not really worried. This doesn't have to be a serious discussion to be tech. I just like finding a way to do something that no one has figured out.
