I been talking arould and looking for tig welder. I have only use a small tig from miller about a year ago. I dont even know what kind it was. but it was nice. was welding a small alum plates. but i would like to do some welding like tubing. and some other nice stuff i have for future projects. I have read many things about them but would like to get more infore about them. i read about or 2 hours last night. but what kind of tig welder would be good for me. I have a mm 200 aready. and 220 plug in my garage now. not looking to be using it all the time. And dont think a new one is in my budget. and plug I like old tools that are like 4 tons  :D

Thanks for the tips

What is your budget and what is the max amperage you could draw on your 230v plug?
Do you have room to install a 70 amp breaker?

about the only real advantage tig has for us hobby guys is the ability to weld many materials with one machine. i use a mig almost exclusively for steel because its so much easier and faster, but for anything else tig is the ticket.

If you like big tools, then start checking Craig's list for older transformer type TIG machines. Depending on the supply and demand in your neighborhood, they may sell for $300-$1000 (also depending on tooling included). Nobody is going to pay to ship these things. They are mighty fine stick welders too and your friends won't ask to borrow it.

No kidding, I looked for a Synchrowave 250 used for a while but I couldn't figure out how I would transport it from a seller :D Eventually I figured out that I really didn't have room for it either so I went with a Dynasty 200 (which I absolutely love...).

Don't forget that it doesn't have any sparks. I just got done TIG welding on the inside of my 80 for the last 3 hours...something I could have never done with any of my MIG welders. The versatility of TIG makes it the preferred way to weld the vast majority of the time for me.
