Having been weaned on an '85 Extra Cab minitruck that I bought new, and that rusted out on me (frame), I was forced to buy a Taco. I waited until the '05s came out to see what they looked like. I found them to be fugly and too large. So I bought an end production '04. It's nice and all that, but too much wallow for me (from the IFS) compared to my mini. If I could have a brand new '85 mini, I'd swap my Taco for it in a heartbeat. Obviously, YMMV.
It's my dd, but would do what slow95z recommends if I had to wheel it.
I agree that 85's were awesome, but if you're talking about a daily driver, I have to disagree. Those trucks were HARSH! Not comfortable at all. I would NOT want to daily drive those trucks. Even 86+ were much more tolerable on the road. You also have to remember that 1985 was 23 years ago. Youthful bones can take much more abuse.
The new Tacoma's are very comfortable and very safe. You will have lots of fun in it and it won't wear you out like the older trucks. IMHO.
