When I bougnt my 40th from the Dealer (I'm the original owner) mine came with the vin numbers etched on each window. Was that not standard? Just curious. He actually just forwarded me 9 attachments of the documents he has. One of the docs is from Property Damage Aprraisers for Liberty Mutual Insurance and the remarks read, "There is no VIN number on the vehicle. When it was stolen the thieves took and or destroyed every vin on the vehicle."
Other reports show the only damage was a missing radio.
If anyone wants copies let me know.
I'm the guy who bought this. Did a ton of research including going to the court and making sure the documents were real. I had to move to LA for work and I am putting the cruiser up for sale. 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser fzj80 78k miles
Salvage Titles vary by State, SoooSo being a lawyer, maybe you can clear up a recent issue raised about salvage title vehicles - esp as they apply to CA & insurance there (and maybe in other states).
Issue raised was that **if** you were involvd in a multi-car accident that fault would automatically be assigned to any vehicle with a salvage title, regardless how the scenario played out. ((Is this true?)) This seems hinky, but legal & logical often diverge.
To your knowledge, is there any disadvantage to being in an accident in your specifically branded title Landcruiser vs any run-of-the-mill clean titled one?
Also, what is your specialty as a lawyer? You clearly have a leg up on many of us as non-lawyers, but is the vehicular spectrum your "wheelhouse", for lack of a better term?
Aside from the effect a branded title has on sale price/value - are there any negative facets of purchase or ownership that would not occur to us average folk?
Insurance premiums? Automatic fault in event of a collision? Anything else I'm not asking?
-Not trying to be the fly in the ointment, I just saw your CL ad ~48hrs ago & thought despite the dream scenario 80, the recent issues raised made me hesitate severely (that & it's ~150% what I hope to spend for a 2nd 80 again).
It's dang pretty, but so was that psycho hot chick many of us dated but never married - generally for sound reasons, you know?
Salvage Titles vary by State, SoooI have never seen a lawyer put anything In wriitng that may leave them exposed, or for free. He posted an add here and a seed hoping we would rhink his salvage title Is O K. No mater how many Tons of research you do Its still a salvage Titie and Nobody wants One. Thats All.
Salvage title isn't the end of the world-especially on an older lower-valued vehicle it takes almost nothing to "total loss" As long as you get it somewhat cheaper and it didn't have really obscene damage . I'd be more worried on an 80k new 200 that had 50k in damage and still wastn't totaled because of the dollar amount-god knows what they would fix on one of those. Idk everywhere or these days- but used to be lkq parts are ok-used parts from another total at least as new or newer. Cutting and welding whole clips or frame sections worries me more.
It's the end of the world in NY. If you get in an accident that is clearly someone else's fault yet are automatically at fault because of the type of title you have

Citation?
It was on another post recently. An 80 that was smashed in a parking lot. A mud member for NYC posted the link.
