sbc to 3 speed question

I am looking at a swap to a v-8, after much debate about a chevy 6 or v-8. I am looking for info and yes I looked at the FAQ's. I need to know what to get to do the swap and if anyone has a used adapter? I have the engine and bellhousing. 56 chevy 265 with cast bellhousing. Is there a plate or something that I need to adapt them? column shift 3 speed 1971 fj40.

there will be plenty of guys telling you to go 4 speed, but if your set on using the 3 speed, PM I have an adaptor plate.

Keeping the stock 3spd works, it's not the greatest arrangement, but the handy thing is the 10-spline engine output shaft and the 10-spline tranny input shaft mate up well, so the plate just gets all the bolt holes in place. I also have such a plate, if needed.

Is the adapter just a plate or is there some type of bearing retainer cone also?

I have this setup in my 74, i can take a pic of it for you if you like..

there is a plate between the bellhousing and the tranny.

i amjust getting ready to pull it all apart to paint and clean all of the stuff up. body is off of the frame right now.
