My father-in-law is talking about getting a BJ70, 73 or 74 with an H55F. I know some BJ74s came with the A440F. His knees are getting bad and constant shifting is not his cup of tea. How convoluted would it be to swap in an A440F auto tranny into a 70/73/74?

Bump for Wayne or John to chime in:D

The fuel economy will drop a fair bit, but otherwise it will work well.

I have a partially parted out automatic BJ74 available, with everything you need to do the conversion.

You will have to move the cross member.

There are two versions of the 13BT, the one with the 8 bolt flywheel and the other has a 6 bolt flywheel - I have parts for the 8 bolt (later) unit.

Oh, the 3B would be a dog with an auto. The 13BT is not too bad.

Need to make sure that you get the later engine so that the flex plate matches... or get a 6 bolt flex plate from Japan.

I want to convert my auto to 5 speed, so that's another option... but I need an 8 bolt flywheel.
