Do you think my BJ70 will have a trailer wiring harness tucked away somewhere at the back end? If not, how would I wire up such a thing (assume a 24volt trailer).

Also, is it common practive to bolt a pintle hitch in place of the eye ring that currently sits on the bumper/rear frame crossmember?

The trailer is still a "To Do"....I want to get an M416 (painted white). I don't know about the pin #. I suppose with the independent ligthing on the BJ70 this is going to be quite a production.

Aussie models seem to have one,its usually on the right rear side and its mentioned in the Chassis and body manual.
I know the Prados from 96 on have them too.

the pinot hitch is a "C" shaped hitch that can be bought at Princess auto or any other "fine" automotive shops...

yes there are a few that have done this, i sell a unit that can convert 5 pin to 4 pin and /or 24V to 12V or you can leave it 24V...

if you want to convert 24 to 12, it can be done with a few cheap bosch relays, and as for converting from amber turns, there's a 20 buck black box at crappy tire that does it.

I'm sure your rear crossmember is fine for a hitch, christ knows it's probably less rusty than the rest of them around here...;p

and lastly,it's pintle kids, PINTLE. in the beginning it was pintle and gudgeon, but I won't get into that.

For the trailer lights you can find this little unit from Lordco,simple to hook up just tap into the wiring harness under the rear right panel and replace the trailer bulbs with 24 volt ones..

at some places you can get Toyota-like plugs that will loop into your harness so that you don't have to splice wires.

If you're going to put in trailer wiring, DO NOT use those little clips that pierce the wires that are usually supplied with cheap trailer wiring kits. Those clips will ruin your wiring after a short while of being exposed to water, mud and salt.

ah, snap on mag trailer lights... an excellent way to go. this way you can tow anything behind you with no worries about lights...go with the industrial set though, the hard plastic doesn't stand up to stones very well...
