ether

Yup

if it does not fire on ether then you know you got a prob

are you giving the right amount of choke? can you hear gas squirt when you move the linkage

could you have flooded it?

Might want to try some HEET in the gas to get rid of any water

it is easy to maybe leave a wire off or pull a plug loose while working on it---when you turn the key do you hear the carb shut off click?

Does anyone know what the min amount of gas is in the tank before it will pick it up? I think the pickup is not going to be at the bottom but up a little to keep out garbage

somewhat of a rookie here so I have 2 questions

How should I ground out the boot?

Where in the carb to I spray the hot shot?

Howdy! Remove the aircleaner and spray 1-2 seconds of HotShot right down the throat of the carb. Try to start it up. If it kicks and bucks and almost runs, then you probably have spark, but not fuel. Conversely, if it doesn't do anything, then you have no spark to light up the fuel mix.

If you pull a spark plug boot, rest it near/over the end of a bolt. Hit the key and watch/listen for the spark. You may have to push the contact point down thru the boot a little so it is at the end of the boot to make it close enough to the bolt to ground out. This is easier to do if you have someone else turning the key for you. HTH John

You probably have bad gas in the float bulb and the float gummed/varnished up in the off position. Spray some carb cleaner in the inlet and let it soak for a while. You could also try rapping the carb lightly around the bulb.
