Do you think a hamburger from Freeman’s will work? How cool would it be to have a bunch of 40s on the trail. I’m looking forward to whatever pans out.He aint cheap but he is easy![]()
Thats a nice run.I’m planning a small overnight trip through Stony Pass, Carson City, and back over Engineers Pass. We’ll leave early Thursday morning and come back Friday evening. It’s about 150 miles round-trip, mostly on dirt roads.
There are two choices for staying overnight:
- Camp along the way.
- Rent cabins near the halfway point.
We can decide on that later, but I’d like to know by the end of June so I can plan for camping gear if needed.
I made a map (link below). Most unrated trails in my opinion are a 2–4 difficulty, but could be harder if it rains.

Let me know here or send me a DM if you’re interested. I’ll keep a flexible list!

Would you like to go?Thats a nice run.
Let me talk to my group (4 of us 40's from VA) and see what they may want to do. I did the whole apline loop in one day last year.@matzell , Rob, do you want to team up for a 150 mile trek?
No worries. Good luck with the move.I'm not attending this year or I would . I'm moving into a new shop in July so Aug vacation is a no go
Sounds like a good plan. The Alpine Loop is also beautiful, and I think that it is about 1/2 the distance of the loop that I linked above. One day for the Alpine Loop is still a long day!Let me talk to my group (4 of us 40's from VA) and see what they may want to do. I did the whole apline loop in one day last year.
How does one plan ahead? Say, Mikes proposed run sounds nice, but I also think I want to get down Imogene and Poughkeepsie, but not sure when any of it goes down?No worries you will have great options.
What I plan of doing is start easy and everyday get more challenging for those that follow me.
I am still planning to run Poughkeepsie Gulch on Monday if you would like to join? I would also like to run Imogene if it’s open. I am planning to do Black Bear on Tuesday and I usually take Imogene back, but we may have to come back over the Last Dollar Road or Ophir. How does one plan ahead? Is it just day to day when we get there?
I’ll not get wrapped around the axle about this, just curious about how to plan, I’ll just be happy to be there.
That sounds good, it’s my nature to dive right in and do the hardest thing first sometimes.I am still planning to run Poughkeepsie Gulch on Monday if you would like to join? La Jara Reservoir, COBeautiful! Where is this?
Monday will be low stress as I will be taking it very easy for my first run. There is a bypass around the wall, too, which has always been there since I can remember but it wasn’t a legal route until about 10 years ago. Others can verify but I believe that the bypass is still open. In any event, we can winch folks over the wall. That sounds good, it’s my nature to dive right in and do the hardest thing first sometimes.
At least that’s how we go skiing, but then again I know how to ski.
Here is a fun fact. I’ve never driven my Cruiser up the wall. I’ve tried many times but it was too short to get the right traction, even with a ‘97” wheelbase. My nearly stock 4Runner would drive right up the wall, which is one reason why I extended my 40 to a 109” wheelbase. I would love to see @Broski ’s line. I may winch again this year. -1 hamburgerThat sounds good, it’s my nature to dive right in and do the hardest thing first sometimes.

For SAS, there are the planners (as described above…wow, maybe I should get these guys to organize my daily schedule!) and those who are more Use the Force type of folks. You get to pick. There’s a dry erase board up daily every morning at coffee with trail plan options. A lot of the time it happens pretty organically. Good stuff! How does one plan ahead? So you think my turtle might actually be good for something? Here is a fun fact. I’ve never driven my Cruiser up the wall. Yes and I am pretty excited to see it in action! Slow and steady is more my style. So you think my turtle might actually be good for something?
That’s all that it will take? “Mike unspools the winch…”If I hear that you winched up that I am unsubscribing to you.
