Black bear is officially open this year! Didn't think that was going to happen again.

Hey guys does anyone have a pull thru or back in RV space that they aren’t fully utilizing it’s size?

I got off the waitlist and I'm bringing a 39’ RV w/ slide outs from VA so we have room for my buddy and his family. After talking to Jeff @ThatKOAGuy he suggested I post here.

He has a smaller space reserved for me that I have to trade:
30 amp or 20 amp
Back in
Water and electric only no sewer
32’ max length

We need a larger back in or pull-thru

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I don’t know where I am on the waitlist, should be near the front.

However, if I don’t hear anything this week I will probably go ahead and cancel my spot at KOA, if it’s better than the one you have, you are welcome to it!

I have the Midland MXT115 and it’s been great with the stubby antenna that it came with. I have that mounted on my roof rack. I picked up their longer 6dB antenna and haven’t even tried it yet because I don’t have any complaints.

Last year we met up with the Texas Convoy on Medano Pass. We got to the summit a few hours in advance, had a nice picnic for a while, and left the Midland on to catch the Convoy chatter so we knew when they were approaching. I actually started getting a fairly clear signal when they were getting off the highway in Walsenburg! That’s about 40 miles away as the crow flies. Not bad for a $200 setup. Now, we were on elevation that overlooked the flatland where they were, so it was a perfect scenario for maximizing reception, but still … just remember if there’s a mountain in the way it doesn’t work like that. But I was impressed nonetheless.

Being on the GMRS-only channels does really help quite a bit too. Channels 1-7 are low power FRS and even with line of sight, if the distance is great the Tx and Rx aren’t great. The upper GMRS-only channels have enough juice for our trail needs though. All the dash mount units have the upper channels, but if you’re buying handhelds make sure they aren’t FRS-only - make sure they are GMRS capable as well.

That’s my $0.02.

I haven’t checked to see if the KOA will allow wood fires this year. Just wondering if there would be late nights around the fire with drinking and sing alongs?
It's been raining daily up there. Haven't seen any fire restrictions in the area. Should be good this year. KOA will bring firewood and ice right to your campsite if you ask them.

Rain gear is standard equipment! Permanent no doors or top. Just a safari type cover.
Layers with a rain jacket are the recommended/ trail clothes. Prepare for chilly and or hot temps, rain, sleet and hail.

We will be running down Black Bear to Telluride Friday morning 8/9 and then back up Imogene to Ouray in the afternoon. Hope to see you all on the trails

Hey all, I am not bringing the group I originally thought last year but still have an extra site reserved. It is an electric/water site, back in for a 20ft camper.

If anyone needs it they can take it. I am trying to figure out the exact site number but when I reserved it last year, it was supposed to be in the back near the shower house. Pretty prime spot.
I will try to figure out which one it is.

Changing up my plan and bringing my red 60 (I hope). Just got the Dobinsons lift from Coop @samc2447 and it is almost done. New 33's and a maintenance run though and she should be ready.

Before.....

Looks like you don't need your white diesel 60 anymore. I'd be happy to take that "problem" off your hands!
Yeah, Chunk is sweet and all, and I love the truck but that smoke up in the passes is wicked. Time to try a different truck. I really like the 2f around here for decent power. Up at elevation?... we'll see.

GREAT action shot there.

My comments on a 2F above 11000' elevation? It gets the job done. Not gracefully, not with any reasonable power, but she'll do it.

Run ethanol free and bump your static timing to a minimum of 12*.

Thanks. I forgot about the timing
