I'll try to pose this in a different way if possible. But first some backstory. I have had 40's, and great 100, and now on my 2nd 200. My rig is a 13 with 118k on it. I am getting to the point where I am going to do the radiator, WP, and globes just as preventative for peace of mind. I held off getting an almost new model last time so we could get my wife a new rx 350h. Now she is throwing out there I should find a newer low mileage one and be done for a while.

Assuming I get in the neighborhood of 30ish for mine and a newer 50k model will be in the 50s. Is 60-70 thousand miles more than mine worth the extra 20k in price?

I know it is my decision. Money is not tight for my toys. I budget so as not to get my ass kicked at home. Plus- she started it...

It has been a tough mental exercise for me this time. I do my proper vetting so I'll know what I'm getting if I do get one. Mine is someone's dream if they were to get it.

What are your thoughts on 50k vs 118k on mileage?

My ultimate goal is to keep driving one across the country fly fishing from time to time and have no mech worries. My farm truck has 230 on it but I wouldn't drive it to Alaska.

I do haave a 21 Tundra pro with 40k on it. I would rather take the LX.

WWJD? No offense meant- I like the lord.

Those are some expensive miles. I'd keep yours maintained and pocket the difference. If cared for, a 118k truck will be no less reliable than a 60k mile truck.

For reference, I bought my 2008 with 200k miles for $22k five years ago, and now it has 272k, and is probably not worth a whole lot less than $20k. Other than wear items and regular maintenance (belts, fluids, brakes, tires, spark plugs, etc), the only thing I have had to replace is one coil pack, and that probably went due to overdue spark plugs.

The 16+ LX has some substantive differences that make the discussion a little more complex than mere mileage. Fantastic headlights, 8-spd transmission, polarizing appearance, most (but not all) hate the lack of touchscreen, super nice interior, often less approach/departure angle, big wheels…

If money isn’t hurting the late model rig is a bit of a different experience, with the same platform to work with. That said I totally agree with the above comment about a maintained 118k mile rig is no less reliable than a 60k mile example. In fact, your experience with the higher mileage one is worth something over an unknown 60k..

I agree with @TimCFJ40 that there isn’t a significant difference between 50k and 118k miles. If you want to make a change, do it for other reasons. A ‘13 LX570 in good shape is a nice ride.

Thanks gents.

I agree the 13 is a nice ride. I needed to hear from a few of you guys about the 50 vs 118 thing. Being in my 50's -I'm still hung up on a car nearing its end after 100k.

I'm not quite sure about the predator grill on the 16+ but some of you guys who put real meats on the truck make them look good. I'm sure the tech is better even though Toyota is always way behind on that front. Except for my wife's new RX has so much tech and nanny BS I think they snuck some AI in there. Not a fan. My tech ignorance is blissful.

I would say yours is just broken in miles wise and only 10years old. You should have easy 10+ years left in it and double the miles with not much cost beyond maintenance you called out. Also it is your rig you know how you have treated it and maintained it. I have 26 year old T100 I would drive it from Texas to Alaska tomorrow. Keep what you got and run it till it dies.

Thanks gents.

My 200 is approaching 200k miles with literally zero interior squeaks or rattles. Yes it has been maintained to a higher standard than most but I’d have absolutely no second thoughts about driving it to Alaska and back if I hit the lottery for fuel costs.

You have to understand even among Toyotas, which pretty regularly go further than any other vehicle on the market, the Landcruiser -and by extension the LX- is special. Toyota doesn’t hide this. It is engineered to a higher standard.. and 100k for any well-maintained Toyota just isn’t an issue.

I really think you could toss some globes on this rig and the other standard stuff and be golden to 200k easily.

Also, don’t assume the 16+ is any better for tech. Still no CarPlay. Strange non-touch nav screen with a selector mouse/joystick kindof thing in the console. But the best interior quality and sound deadening of any 200. And those headlights.. I personally love the look of them, and hear they work fantastically.

$20k will pay for a lot of maintenance right now that you would still need to do to a newer one eventually anyway.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the front diff in the 6 speed version can easily be regeared, but the 8 speed versions will need to source a front carrier from a 6 speed variant. This may or may not matter to you depending on your use case.

Having a 200 series with 240k on it..

I wouldn’t spend $20 to get 50k less miles.. my 200 is rock solid at 240k. I’d put the 20k elsewhere. You know what you have now.. spending 20k to start over doesn’t sound like something I want to do.

Just my .02

You guys are kind of talking me off the ledge a little bit. Then I see the new reveal which makes me want to keep a 200 even more.

I am super slow to warm up to the new gens each time though. Get off my lawn.
