I ran samco hoses exclusively on my Audi that was pushing 35 psi of boost...never a problem and would like to have that piece of mind on my cruiser...

With recent talk of silicone hoses (mainly for boost), I thought since I seem to be the one who has wanted these the longest, I don't mind "taking point" contacting Samco & seeeing where we can get - but it would be good to get a rough idea how many people we could count on - figure it to be a $400-$500 investment, so it's for the long-term owners.

When I talked to Samco last, they were all for the idea of offering a kit... Someone needs to purchase all of the OEM hoses that we want made, and Samco will duplicate them as one kit.

I was planning on doing this, but ended up having to get rid of my 80 before I had the opportunity.

When this thread was started 5 years ago it would have been a lot easier to find more long term owners. Myself for one. But I keep finding my self asking how long will I really keep this rig? And I only have 156K, probably less than most. I don't think I could justify the complete kit to my self at this point. JMHO.

Wish this was brought up earlier. I just purchased all the hoses for my rebuild. I am one of those forever owners. I've owned since day one and will keep it til it's last day.

I'm not 100% convinced it's an "investment" per se as silicone does weep but I am interested all the same.

I don't get it really. The OEM parts are solid. Is this a bling thing or are there that many people worried about having to replace the hoses again in 2027?

I would venture Samco would be happy to get a kit together. I read through the thread and there didn't seem to be much agreement on a large number that would all commit to one set of hoses.

IDK nor am I going to try & sell you on these hoses - they cost a grip & I'm fully aware (and have had a set) - I just like knowing that once I do a job, it's a lock.

Having a full set of these with all the firewall hoses would be nice to me, but I'm a lifer & in the process of getting myself a LX450 to add to the stable, so for me it's not like I even understand the concept of not having a 80 -- but that's purely my opinion. the reliability of the 80 supercedes the cost of gas, and I have a few other rides if gas ever went to an insane level, but it's proved that large jumps in the price drag down the economy here in the USA, so I think aside from inflationary costs, gas is stable to a point I'll never be worried about the quantity I use.

Even if yoiu did a motor swap, most of the hoses would be retained, it's a little bling but mainly a "buy it once" thing - like something you may own that was passed down to you. It's not for everyone.

So how about we start a group funded account & all of us who want a set would kick in $10-$15 & get the set to send off to Samco?

I'd throw $15 gifted on Paypal (despite my hatred of them) your way if you have already taken point with Samco & all it would take would be say another ~15 guys to do the same - bam, we have a set paid for & sent out to Samco. CDan could set us up with a good price & we'd be a done deal.

Interested? Anybody else?

Forge/samco has a rep in Kissimmee if I'm not mistaken..

I'm in!

I'm in. I'm at 220,000 and wouldn't mind having once less thing to worry about

I'm still up for set, IDK about us needing to buy a set of hoses to send them - I get these are rare-ish rigs, but Samco did a set of hoses for E30M3's (BMW's) & they only made like ~20K of those cars, the USA getting only a little over 5K of those - so this really should be an easy issue if we can get Samco in a discussion over it.

They even did a set for Volkwagen Corrados, in both the superchaged 1.8 & the VR6 - cars that were produced worldwide in the same numbers as the above rare BMW -- so I just don't get why we can't get a set for the 3FE & 1FZ - comparatively worldwide, we have more discretionary money & the 80 only came to the USA in those 2 motors & I bet the hoses are near identical (I've never been underhood a 3FE with a critical eye to the hoses, but I bet the only changes would be in the intake manifold & lefthand side of the motor, the firewall, the radiator, and the rear heater (are there ones in the 3FE rigs?) would all be the same.

Then adding to the 80 numbers we have however many LX450's got sold -

Again, I know these aren't cheap hoses but they are a once & done thing - they last & last over rubber - and I personally would like to do the firewall hoses & even do the rear heater hoses in these. If we get a kit made, I know a lot of names around this forum haven't changed, and even those newer to the 80 are possibly willing to do a set based on the miles & need to change soft parts on rigs new(er) to them.

Considering most hoses on my 94 were original, I guess I dont see a great need to buy expensive hoses for a vehicle that most people are only going to keep for a few years and likely not put another 100k miles on. :meh:

After just putting $12k in a new motor and owning the truck since day one, I'm definitely up for longevity. 300k on my LX btw.

I've read too many of your threads and you're definitely the exception to the rule. :flipoff2:

Pretty sure there are a few like me :grinpimp:

While I don't go to the level you do in your builds, I def am a "lifer" on my black 80, and I have no desire to sell or any intention to lose the LX450 either.

And for those who don't think these hoses are for them, fine - your rig, your tow bill if you are still running 18 year old hoses - just don't act surprised when you pop a hose & I really hope you don't cook the motor.

A set of Samco hoses won't return you full value if you aren't sure how long you plan to keep, but they are incredible peace of mind & will have value at the point you sell if you explain to your buyer what is there - the look of the silicone & the flex they have will easily let someone know these aren't just fancy painted rubber hoses - a set might be $300-400, but a set installed should easily net you an extra $200 at sale time & it shows pride of ownership, not nickel & dime-ing your way through maintaining your 80.

I know when I traded in my Corrado for the 80 ~11 yrs ago, the dealership owner got involved in the deal (had a lot of Euro parts, & a relay harness for the headlights, custom glass moonroof swap from a Passat, etc.) - and the motor was spotles & had a set of Samco's on it - the owner mentioned right off that he could tell the car was easily well taken care of & he said he was going to take the trade at well beyond what I expected for it as he said his own son was looking for a sporty car that was reliable & hadn't been butchered - so I got literally a couple thousand over what I expected as trade-in just because the motor looked like I spent time on it (and I did - I've had a hoist in my shops since I was ~25y.o.)

Given $400 to spend on Samco's or some sort of other stuff, the Samco's will give you a better return on investment & peace of mind the whole time you own it. Simple math to me.

It's like how improving the kitchen or bathrooms in a house give a better return on investment than other rooms come time to sell a house.

I have an Samco radiator kit installed on my Nissan Maxima for about 3-4 years, they work fine. But here is my personal opinion. When they were fresh installed, they looked nice and shining. But after all these years, the color is fading, they are kind of ugly looking. I still prefer the OEM hoses. Just my $0.02.
