Hello all,

I just finished my saginaw PS conversion this weekend but am having one small problem. Occassionally, I hear a squeel when I turn the wheel. The first time I noticed it, I assumed that my belt was not tensioned properly. After further investigation, the pulley actually stops turning momentarily which is the cause of the squeel. My pump is a new (reman) pump with a keyless shaft. I'm thinking that my pulley may be slipping on the shaft. Is there any way to fix this? I'm going to verify this today by drawing an alignment mark on the shaft and pulley, but if it is, I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts?

It's only happened twice while backing out of a flat parking lot which doesn't bother me much, but I don't want to be on a trail, when the wheels are really in a bind, and run into the same problem.

Also, the pump will squeel when I turn the wheels too far, but the problem that bothers me is when it happens when the wheels are nearly straight.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Did you bleed the air out of the system?
Is your belt tensioned properly?
If your pulley is spinning on the pump shaft, I can only imagine that both the pulley and now the pump shaft is toast.

My guess is a loose belt. If the pulley was slpipping on the shaft the pulley would not stop turning.

Did you use a product like Loctite 640 sleeve and bearing retainer on the pulley and shaft mating surface when you installed the pulley?

All things aligned, are you running the skinny belt or a wide one similar to stock (17mm)? You shouldn't be experiencing slippage with the wide belt.

Thanks for the help guys. I guess it was a loose belt. I removed the belt and re-tightened it and havent had trouble with it yet. I know I had the belt tight enough to begin with, but I'm thinking that I didn't tighten the tensioning bolt properly, so the belt may have loosened. Thanks again for the input, sorry it was such a simple fix.
