Well guys...
this past weekend I spent an entire day breaking down my rig. After years on this forum (orig SOR Forum member!) and more recent lurking. It is time for me to write those dreded words.......

I am getting rid of my 1996 TOYOTA Land Cruiser "BIG BLACK".

Before I explain, I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone on this forum for their help and overall positive attitudes. I am going to miss the support from everyone especially responses for those 'emergency posts' ...like...the "I broke my Shock bolt off" and "I cant get my diff plug off" posts!...without your help, i would have easily spent $1000's on BS one bananna jobs. I will miss REAL WORLD memories like spotting JUNK speed past me on the Garden State Parkway going about 85 MPH. BOTTOM LINE: This forum is GREAT! and the people are even better...it is a model for other chat/support forums on the internet. This forum not only turned me on to DIY mechanics..but gave me a greater sense of mechanical 'know how' and the confidence to try different things with my cars. I truly enjoy WORKING on cars now where before I only enjoyed driving them.

Now here are my reasons..(never thought I would ever feel I had to explain to someone why I am getting rid of a car...weird LC thing I guess).
Well, I have several things going on in my life right now ....new job, possible relocation, getting married, talking kids, high insurance rates, and the straw that broke th camels back..spending $200 a month in gas just to commute to work! Thanks OPEC you F-Kers! (LC is my DD). All these things just built up and it makes the most sense for me right now to get rid of the LC.

I bought her with 95K on the odometer..and right now she is about to turn 150K..and not a single (knock on wood) mechanical problem. What a great rig! It has been a REALLY tough decision to get rid of her (the rig..not my fiancee..haha), but, i 'prepped' her for trade-in by taking off all the things I spent years putting on with my own blood, sweat, F-bombs and Tears. You see "BIG BLACK" now is back to "BORING BLACK...suburban Mall Cruiser". She looks EXACTLY like the day i saved her from a Boston Auto Dealership. It was really sad removing all the 'stuff' I put on her...but, I figured, that I would be dammed if I found out my baby was shipped off to Mexico with all the equip I put on it!...

So, that leads to the final point of my post..

I did not want to put stuff on EBAY. I wanted to sell my things to YOU GUYS because I know that you understand and would use them. Therefore, will be posting a bunch of stuff I pulled from my rig in the next day or so on the "FOR SALE" forum. Stay Tuned.

Well, that's it...
Good luck to each of you and maybe some day I will see ya on the trails.

Take Care..

Joe

It might seem like its the nd of the world, but its not. Don't worry dude you'll get everything back its just a temporary defeat. All the parts from BIG BLACK will be put to use by people here. People who love LCs. Everything will be cool man.

Sorry to hear that Joe, I have wondered a few times to myself where you were. Congrats on the marriage and family thing coming your way. Too bad the truck needs to go as it would be the ideal vehicle to keep those precious people safe on the road.

Best of luck, and I'll watch for your post in the sales section as a freind of mine is looking for some stuff.

We will be watching :)

You will get more selling it here than in trade.

I'm looking for a few accessories, i'll watch the for sale section.................hope you'll be back soon.

That stinks, must have been a tough decision indeed. Hopefully you can still poke your head in and give us a shout, maybe even get back into a Cruiser someday? Best of luck ...... BTW, what are you replacing her with?

** PM'd you
