Couple things I learned about the 100 series before I bought one - doesn't pass too many gas stations, heater t's, cup holders are garbage and the riveted molding on the windshield is shameful. I bought my 2000 and there appeared to be a bit of surface rust on the edge of the windshield frame, other than that it was an Orange County garage kept beauty.
I cracked the windshield, because Utah is a gravel truck nightmare, so I took it to the Mailman's Dealership in Draper where I bought my wife's Sienna because I heard they had a good body shop. The shop manager and the other manager (general?) both had 100 series and had some issues with their windshield frames. They showed me their trucks with the riveted molding delete and then used a Tacoma molding on the roof. It looked sweet and appeared to be the fix I wanted. When they removed the windshield it was a junk show.

They said it looked way worse than it actually was and that they could build it up and treat the inside to help prevent further issues.
Well, I gotta say, I was happy with the results.

My invoice doesn't have the part number for the Tacoma molding, but you can see from the photo's with out the glass, that it looks freaking factory! IMHO.... The glass sits up tight on the repainted frame. The dealer had a guy that replaces windshields on these and knows what he is doing. The glass was not cheap, but at this point I was Just Emptying Every Pocket (former owner) and figured "go for it!" The very next rock chip I got, I had fixed the same day. I figure Ill be hyper vigilant about these, try to make this glass last as long as possible. The windshield guy said most glass shops don't give a $#!^ and damage the frame during removal which leads to this. Plus Toyota put freaking holes in the dang thing!!!
Hope this helps, this forum has been helpful to me, so ask me questions if I forgot some juicy details.

That is superior work. They did a heck of job. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting! Can you add some pics with the glass installed? Did they still use the 100 Series glass?

Can you share a couple of pictures of the said Tacoma molding in place?

the taco molding is in the pics of the finished product. I shoot a pic of the glass in it next time Im outside
Is it possible that I am not seeing pics of the finished product even tho they are on the first post? I only see 5 pics and none of them have the glass installed :(

Awesome, I am hoping to do something similar before the snow flies. Please post as many pics and part numbers as you can, this is something that aging 100 series seem to be stricken with, any details you can share will be very appreciated by all.

The molding is just on the roof bit.

It appears the juicy bit I left out was the glass in it! hold please for pics!!

My invoice is very basic, no part numbers. I would have to call Karl Malone and find out.

Wait, is this shop/dealership really owned by Karl Malone? :D
Yeah! The owner that moved the Jazz to SLC didn't have the funds to pay him and Stockton like LA or Chicago could, so as part compensation he set them up with car dealerships. Perpetual income. Kinda smart actually. Karl owns a bunch of them. Even sells UTV's and dirt bikes in my town. Got to meet him at the rodeo.

Utah is one of a kind.

That looks much cleaner and harder to screw up than the factory setup. I have read people complaining about extra wind noise when they're missing the side trim, is this still quiet?

If I get to the point I need a windshield, making the drive down to Utah wouldn't be so bad...

I asked the body shop guy the same thing, he said no way. And I can tell you, there is no added wind noise. Its a pretty tiny gap. People like to complain, its a human thing.

Thanks that's much better. Did they put anything to cover the edge of the glass on the sides? Is there much wind noise without the side moldings?
nothing on the edge of the glass. I asked the body shop manager and glass install dude about that - both said, not an issue. I have had this set up since last summer, about 11 months, so all seasons, and I didn't notice any wind noise. And the glass is in perfect shape. I rarely listen to the radio because I like my LC quite time. And I broke the antenna off first week in the car wash. Hahahahahaha! Stupid antenna. Bought a bluetooth cassette tape, so I can play music on my phone through the speakers - zero banana job and $27.

The previous windshield installer I used didn't use factory rivets/holes but instead drilled new wholes. To fix this, should I go to a windshield installation specialist or body shop?
