Hi!
First time posting in this section. Been mainly in the 80-section. We're looking to get a late model GX470 and I found this on Craigslist this weekend and will probably take a look at it later today if it's still available.

One concern I had is this car was in PA for most of it's life so rust might be an issue. I asked the owner for under carriage pics and I uploaded them here: GX470 Rust

I'm a CA guy so don't deal with rust too much, should I be worried about the rust or is it just surface rust?

Here are more pics of the car if you're interested. It's a 2007 GX470 with 118k miles, owner is asking $15k for it. Lexus GX 470 - Dunlap Family

Thanks!

Doesnt look too bad. You may have a stuck bolt every now and then though.

Yep. That is surface. You will see it in the bolts and fasteners, but you can pre-soak if it is a magic opportunity! :P

that looks really clean to be honest. i bought my gx almost a year ago from a dealer in seattle and it had been a west coast vehicle it whole life except for the first 3 years -NJ. anyhow it looks about like yours and mind had 130k on it. i spent a couple of hours over the period of a few days with a wire brush, wire wheel and some epoxy paint(designed/intended for rust prevention on chassis and suspension) to clean things up. after a couple of wheels in between rain storms(giving the under side time to dry ect before painting) i had a clean new looking chassis. i just had to replace my O2 sensors and thought this job would be a huge PITA because of rust, but surprisingly not bad, infact i have only broken 2 bolts and discovered a 3rd on the truck, and thats with doing a lift and coil conversion... id say go for it, if everything else is what you are looking for. that amount of rust would not shy me away knowing what i know now. -now if i could find the same rig for say $1000 more with zero rust i would buy the zero rust one. because soaking rusty bolts is lame and it will take extra time and care when working on some items, and the exhaust will have to be cut if any work is needed there. but again i would not let that amount of rust scare me away -check for rust around the top of the windshield and in the rear door jams and back door/gate. when you see it in person

Thank you all for the responses. Looks like the GX was sold. I was the 2nd one in line to take a look at it... My search will continue!

I have new shocks and springs to put on my Infiniti, and both lower shock bolts are seized into the bushing sleeves due to rust. So they need to be cut out and new bushings pressed in to the rear knuckles. Now THAT is not fun to do.

@SouthernSS used a pipe wrench to hold my rear shocks while I tried to loosen the top nut ... both of the shock just broke snapped off

@123ROBERTELEE and I had to use a saws all to cut 3 of 4 cam bolts out of the lower control arms to get them off... a new set of those bolts i think where over $200 from Lexus .... upper and lower control install took 9hrs ! .... we had many other issues aswell

I feel your pain
