Appologies if this is not the right place to post this. Thoughts on this LX in an area they salt the roads. I know it wouldn't fly in the Southwest, but is this bad enough to pass on for the Northeast?

In my experience, it seems that dealers in the rust-belt seem to ask just as much as dealers in non-rusty areas. I would want a price that reflected the hours that I would have to spend underneath to address that.

That said, it does appear to be doable - just more work than I would want.

Compare that with the cost of flying across country to secure one in better shape....

Have the AHC globes already been replaced before? If they have then the replacements are even looking somewhat rough. If the gas tank skid is looking like that you can expect the front skids are toast and need to be replaced.

How many miles are on it? Like ^ said, looks do-able but needs quite a bit of labor to get it to a good place. Looks to be on the cusp of breaking bolts in the bad areas.

I think that level of rust is fine as long as it isn’t a lot worse elsewhere on the frame. But I would power wash it and get it coated with Krown, Woolwax, or Fluid Film every year.

Even a car from Arizona will look like this after 2 Vermont winters unless the frame and suspension are sprayed with Fluid Film, Woolwax, or Krown. I would not worry about getting the rust fully removed. There just isn’t any real world value unless you lie underneath your truck all the time like apparently people in Arizona and California do. Just treat it every fall and drive it.

Appreciate it, thank you!

Only 130k and they are asking $21k for it. No idea on maintenance history, I've requested it from them

If you can get the VIN...
And, sweet talk the right person at your local Lexus dealership, you can get maintenance records. Limited to Lexus dealers only, of course.

Lexi’s owners can’t look up the dealer service history of any L vehicle on the owner’s site like Toyota?

Highjacking this thread as I have a similar situation.

I normally have the “if you have to ask, it’s too much” mindset. But I’m considering one that has me questioning my sanity.
2015 LX with 95k miles. Great maintenance history with all fluids be replaced at 75k miles. Interior and exterior are 9 out of 10. From a used car dealer and the dealer has been very up front and offered to bring it to a nearby Lexus dealership for a PPI without me even asking about a third party inspection. Basically it checks all boxes except for some corrosion. I’m in Maine and there is no way around rust so just wondering if I’m being too picky.
Thoughts?

If the price is right, I'd probably do it.

Kind of hard to believe it's a Maine car, though.

Looks fine

@jlm43 I can’t help with your sanity question, but from what is the photos, I don’t think the rust is a big deal and certainly not a deal breaker. Make your decision based on other factors. If you get it, plan on some rust treatment and enjoy the ride.

That is what my LX looks like similiar mileage and I live in upstate NY, that car was 100% washed 1-3x a week in the winter time. That's a safe bet to go with as others said rust treat the few things that have some rust and enjoy it. Check to see if there is any corrosion on the terminals by the kick panels also.

@jlm43 the rust on that rig looks very minor considering its a 10 year old offroad rig... and this is coming from a TX driver.

Thanks for all of the comments. I'm going to line up the PPI and see what they have to say. The 60k mile service was performed by a Lexus dealer and that same dealer sold it as a L/Certified when it had 70k miles on it. As far as maintenance and overall condition, it definitely appears to be one of the better one's I've looked at.

AHC fluid change is included in the 60k service list. Be prepared to learn that it wasn't, in fact, done.

Not sure of the percentage of dealers that charge for it and don't do it, but it does happen.

Hit up Lexus.com with the vin to view previous dealer work.

Already on it. Between that and the Carfax report, I was able to see most of the required service. The 30k to 60k range is a bit vague but it starts going back to a Lexus dealer for service after that. It's the corrosion that is slowing me down on this one.

Getting the accumulator globes lose is the biggest hurdle.
