Running Hot.....

Cruiser88--When I burp it I have it on an incline, truck is running, radiator cap is off and the overflow reservoir is at the full mark. The truck reaches 190*, Tstat opens and I continue to let the truck run while looking for bubbles. I even slowly sart pinching the upper radiator hose trying to work some air out but the only thing that happens is coolant keeps slowly spilling out from the radiator caps opening and starts getting everywhere.

That's what lead me to a funnel and duck tape - Wurks fer me

On the way home I watched the mechanical gauge get to 190* I know the Tstat opens the temp will go down a little below 190* with coolant ciculating then it'll go to 210 at idle, start driving it goes down to 197* to 200* sometimes 204* and at shut down I can watch the gauge go to 220*. It's a little frustrating. Mike

You're hearing air so I think you still have more to burp, but I don't think I've seen fan clutch refered to in this thread yet. Do you know if your fan clutch is good? A bad one can give you high temps at idle.

Fan clutch is good. At initial start up it comes on as it should. The motor doesn't seem to be hot. It's the best running 2F I've owned. I know that it's just that air pocket in there that is giving the gauge the high reading. The hard part is getting that air out of the system. I also pulled the gauge (AutoMeter Z series) and tested it in my 40 series (350 Chev) reads 180* rock solid at idle. Mike

210 is not that hot water boils at 212 but with 50/50 coolant/ water the boiling point is up to around 250. Cars will run within about 10% +/- the thermostat so 210 is within the NORMAL range.

I think it's a little warm. If it's 210* when it's 16* outside ( last nights temp) what's it going to read when it's 90* outside? I know it's acceptable but .....I will keep trying to get the air out of it.

mine started running pretty hot today so i stopped by O'smiley and bought 2 gals of coolant and a long funnel. did the old redneck duck tape-funnel burping trick. it worked like a charm. kept her running in the driveway for about 15-20 mins and she never got over about 1/3 on the temp gauge. i have the T valve on the heater hose but don't really know what to do with it. also noticed an improvement in the front heater and got heat out of the rear heater for the first time. great tip.
