Anyone know where I can source a bolt kit for the running board?

Thank you. I just emailed via the website

Curious what is special about running board bolts? Not sure when the carriage style bolt was replaced by a bolt from the bottom but think a SAE carriage bolt would work. Probably the same size as the top bumper bolt just longer. Know had some cruisers that the bumper carriage bolts were SAE and fit the same as OEM bolts.

On my 68 I installed 78 running boards back in the early eighties. Remember not all the fixed nuts lined up and had to drill a few holes. Think I kept everything metric but wouldn't swear to it.

I've searched for FJ40 Running Board Bolt Kits as well with no luck. I read through the entire "Bolt thread" and there is no mention of bolts for the late 1972-1978 style running boards. So, based on what I removed from my June '72 FJ40 with the actual diamond plate welded on to the running board design (which is no longer available), and the Toyota parts diagram, here are the original parts with part #s:

x12 (6 ea. side) JIS M8x1.25x16mm bolts with 12mm HEX heads (#91621-40816)
x12 (6 ea. side) bolt washers (#91851-40818)
x12 (6 ea. side) washers (#94612-00800) discontinued
x12 (6 ea. side) nuts (#94110-40800) discontinued

x2 (1 ea. side) JIS M10x1.25x30mm carriage bolt (#90112-10007) discontinued or (#91665-41035)
x2 (1 ea. side) split washer (#94612-11000)
x2 (1 ea. side) washer (#94511-01000)
x2 (1 ea. side) nut (#94110-41000)

x2 (1 ea. side) cushion for step (#51770A or #52232-90300) discontinued

If you're still with me, most of this information doesn't matter because the design of the OEM '72-'78 running boards changed with welded on captive nuts!!!

I'm not doing a Concours restoration of my FJ40 but I would like to use JIS bolts of better/best quality -- Stainless Steel, Silver Zinc or Yellow Platting all work for me! Here's my list of what I'm looking for and would make a GREAT FJ40 Running Board Bolt Kit:

x12 JIS M8x1.25x16mm with 12mm HEX Indented Head, Split Washer (captured), Flat Washer (captured)
Toyota Part #: 90080-11229 superseded 91651-40816

x2 JIS M10x1.25x30mm with 14mm HEX Indented Head, Split Washer (captured), Flat Washer (captured)
Toyota Part #: 91651-61030

One set of Daystar Running Board Isolators #KT04008BK

Please let me know if there is a source where I could purchase my dream FJ40 Running Board Bolt Kit.
Thanks!

Ordered Stainless and Yellow Zink bolts from @davework of http://www.overlandmetric.com and Toyota bolts from my friends Stevinson Toyota West just to confirm my research of the OE part numbers is correct. I'll post a few reference pictures for both options when the parts arrive.

If you are talking about the six bolts that holds the running board to the tub & front fender, I just used some stainless steel M8 units. Probably can get them ACE hardware as needed....But @davework stainless steel units would be much better!

Agreed but what's the fun it that? Plus the Hex heads on the ACE Hardware bolts would probably be 13mm. I did send an email to @davework which I think is Overland Metric to get some of his tasty Marine Grade Stainless hardware but haven't heard anything back yet. I'll also send him a note through i🖤mud. Thanks!

Yep, if only Overland Metric had the stainless steel kits way back when...

I think we can help with this - so long as you all are looking for the running board to Tub and Frame Bracket?

Definitely have the M8x16 Hex SEMS in 316 SS: LINK

And M8 Nuts: LINK

We usually have M10x25 Hex SEMS in 316 SS as well, but they are currently out of stock.

M10x30 Hex Bolts are available in carbon steel (yellow zinc, silver zinc, gold cad): LINK (M10 washers are available here as well)

Where is this single M10 bolt used? Need to pull out parts diagram.

The M10 now goes up from the bottom through the frame support bracket and connects to a captive nut on the bottom of the running board.

I believe the running boards I have on my 68 were off a 78. It was over thirty five years ago I installed them so can't bday for sure. Did a quick search and believe that must be from 6/78 or older. Show 8/73-6/78 using the same style. 6/78-1/79 is another part number. The ones on my 68 use the carriage style bolt. I another pre 1/79 set that uses a regular bolt. Going by this have to assume the single M10 started 6/78. Prior to that all used an carriage style bolt.

@davework ...here is the photo and message you sent me. I didn’t need the nuts since the running boards have capture nuts. The bolts you sent were spot on.
For those reading thread, I could have gone to ACE hardware however I wanted to support Overland metric. The price was good and Dave had them in my mailbox in 2 days.

Ha! Thanks for posting @Purpleaction

I must be getting old - I need to save these replies somewhere more easily searchable.

Purpleaction did you go w/ stainless? Looks like Kvanoort went / is going with SS. After this latest latest snow event melts off I plan to remove my running boards on my ‘75 FJ40 and assume most bolts will snap off and should replace them all. Do you all go back with anti-seize, anti-gall and/ or Locktite using SS bolts with the captured nut? I‘ll go SS with an order to Overland - a local company with outstanding product and service!

@Buckaro ...I did go with stainless as I have with most of the bolts I have replaced. I also used antisieze.
