I'm working on the pics for the Norcal Wagons site. Soon they should be posted.
As always we worked on our food. But this time it was very special: Luke brought a fresh rattler to our camp and we cooked it with olive oil and Norcal Wagons secret spices.
It was pretty good. The texture it's a bit tough. It certainly does not taste like chicken. More like a meaty fish.

Regards

Unbelievable trip to say the least with a few lingering "scars." lol

Quick story: Got through the con and on the way home ended up breaking 4 of 6 wheel studs (front passenger side) with the 5th one on the way out as I stopped. Luckly we were about 200 yards from Downtown Placerville. Limped to the gas station had a set of new wheel studs on me (thank you Cdan for telling me to purchase a few extra) and an hour or so after the incident I was on my way home.

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the fix. I realized how very important it is to have the proper tools on you, the knowledge of what needs to be done how to do it, and an LC family that delays their own travels home to help you out. THanks again, we'll do it again next year (Minus the wheel stud thing).

Looks like the rig has gone through a few changes since I last saw it. Is that a Slee six inch kit I see on there?

Yes, the coils are 6" slees, but there are other goodies to be revealed only in the flesh. So you have to make it out on a run with me:D .

I had heard that someone killed a Rattler up their. I have not heard of many report of Rattlers at that elevation.

Maybe it was the altitude, but for sure it was a rattlesnake, and for sure, they don't taste all that good. The old joke about "tastes like chicken" is just wrong.

Last year someone from our group saw one near the top of Big Sluice, which is higher than Rubicon Springs.
I think that now that days are warmer and the snow is almost gone, they like to be out.

Amazingly, rattlesnakes are not that rare at the springs. I have not seen them anywhere else on the trail, but that does not mean they are not there.
They are usually way more scared of us than we should be of them, and given the chance will normally exit as quick as possible.

Great pix of the run, I wanted to go big time but recent shoulder surgery caused me to stay home. Thanx for the pix everyone, they are great.

Luke (4x4 Labs) grabbed the rattler on Cadillac. I forgot to ask him how it was. We were camped next door. We saw one up by the slabs too.. Rock and snakes and bears, oh my! :)

Killed it and ate the thing, saw it with my own eyes. 4 footer, still had the skin to take home to the wife and kids :)

Heard about a bad wreck on Cadilac. They had to fly the driver out. I've got my fingers crossed he's gonna be ok.

Looking forward to the reports of the good stuff.

I was first EMT on scene with him. He was very lucky, no seat belt and according to his brother on a different thread there was no alcohol involved. One of his rear tires caught a tree and it stopped him from continuing to roll down the hill. Last report I heard he has two broken shoulders, bruised chest and I know there was a couple lacerations on his head. I hope people learn a lesson from this.... that guy should consider himself very lucky, and his rollcage saved his life. If he had been wearing good 4 pt seatbelts, he probably would not have had to been life flighted out.
