Does anyone have any updated pictures of the rubicon? I saw a couple on Pirate from early May and the trail had a LOT of snow on it! Should be very interesting....

... and whos going? I am on the Thursday morning breakfast run with Bill Jackson.

Its been six years since I have been up there... can hardly wait to hit the rocks... hope to see you on the trail!

I'm on the same run

Friday morning run.

From what I hear and from past experience, should be fine from Loon to the springs. The wild card is going to be going out through Tahoe just like last year. As far as I know, no one has punched through the McKinney Lakes area yet.

3 more weeks and the forecast is for continued warm temps...........melt snow.....melt snow.....

P.S. That video is outstanding!

It was a lot of fun and a lot of work.
Apparently there's a lot more snow up there this year than last year. The water crossings (mud holes) were deep. Over 3' last year. I can't imagine what they would be now.

If you are doing Rubithon bring a lot of DEET. We'll be sharing the trail with lots of mosquitoes.

Regards

Alvaro

Wednesday Morning Breakfast run, popping the CON cherry. No other group I'd rather do it with.

toooooooo cool!!! :grinpimp:

how do I convince someone to burn me a DV-cam quality DVD of that? willing to $$$ for the trouble!

I'm going to try to make it out next year. Probably fly out and bum a ride with someone. The 2589.5 mile trip makes it hard to bring the cruiser.....

I thought the same rule that applied to the Con in mentioning the word that describes water falling from the sky and the white stuff that falls from the sky. Don't say it, NO?

Joe,

I don't know. Maybe some pepper steaks again? Maybe seafood paella? BBQ ribs? Chicken wings? Salmon Pasta? Most likely something grilled? You know what it's like.
Have you seen the Moab Pre run video?

I'll be on the same run, if we survive the initial journey. I checked weather.com for lake tahoe. The weather forecast looks nice; mid 30's at night to mid 70's during the day. I have told that the water crossings may be a little  deeper than last year. Any luck fishing the lakes throughout the trail? Are they stocked?

Never been...so we're really excited, especially after watching the video! :bounce:

If you want to fish, the best place is Buck Island Lake. It it stocked and there are some very large trout there. A guy last year had a 20 incher! Usually, you're so busy getting the trail done, there is little time to fish. There are also small native rainbows in the river at Rubicon Springs. I've seen a few caught there below camp over the years.

If the water crossings are deeper-there will be problems. I had water over my 35 inch tires several times. It would just pour into the cab through the t-case shifter boot. Make sure you have extended differential and tranny breathers. I got home after Rubicon and drained everything. THere was suprisingly little water given the depths we were in.

I noticed on our run Ross will camp at Buck Island or the springs. Fingers crossed for Buck Island to fish for a morning or evening bite! Is the water deep and is there room for a float tube on Buck?

During our safety inspection both of my breathers were missing and my front driveshaft was to short. All repairs have been completed.

I have run with Ross several times, and in fact, he got me through Rubicon in 2002 when I was a first timer. He is an excellent trail leader. Every time, we have camped at Buck Island. The lake itself is huge-plenty of room for boats, float tubes, cabin cruisers, what ever you have. See you there.

rubithon

Have fun you guys, we wish we were going. Just FYI, snow in truckee area pretty much none. We go to Jackson Meadows each year for mem day weekend. Couldn't get in this year. I drove up thurs before mem day weekend without boat, no go. This is the first time for us and we've been going for atleast 7 years. The snow was big this year. Have a great time!!!
