So I started changing my belts and the first thing that happened is I found that my ac tensioner bolt is severely rounded off. I have basic hand tools, but don't have any way to heat it. I need to change my belts because one of the drive belts let go yesterday. Any ideas on the bolt, and is it safe to just cut the ac belt and run with the one drive belt? Why did toyota put 2 on there? Thanks everyone

Ok thanks. I have a kit for rounded bolts and its not getting it. Also, where the heck are the alternator bolts?

Mine ran without the AC belt for about a month for exactly this same reason. I waited until I had to change my radiator out, gave me more room to work. Then I hammered on one of those special sockets that removes rounded bolts. Worked great, now I've got a stainless nut on there so I don't have that issue again.

So I have loosened a large 14mm bolt on top of the alternator as well as two bolts on the tensioner and the damn thing still won't move!! Anyone want to buy a landcruiser for 20 bucks???

So does anyone have an idea which bolt I am missing?

Any ideas??? I am totally stumped!

You have the top bolt loosened, it's right behind the distributor. 14mm head.

There is a bolt in the sliding tensioner that is pretty much right behind the belt. It's a 12mm hex head, and it also has a torx drive (why, no one knows). Loosen that 1 turn.

Then, there is a long crossways bolt whose head is toward the battery. Also 12mm head. You can see the threaded end directly above the other 12mm bolt, just further back. Loosen that a long ways so you can get all the slack in the belt you can. Don't take it out though.

Enjoy being a contortionist. Good Luck!

So that's what a clean engine bay looks like!!! Haha thanks for the great pic. I got it and now have the drive belts on. Now I just need to figure out that stupid ac tensioner! Luckily there is always next weekend. Thanks for the help everyone

How is that engine so stinkin clean? Do you even drive it, for crying out loud? :)

There is a TON of room in that engine bay........ it's the size of a garage!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. Using an extractor wasn't an option...

I went a little extreme on it, but I got it out...
