I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I figure I should ask anyway....

Should there be grease in the area where the abs sensor resides? I don't believe so because that's the point of having a seal at the back of the hub... Correct?

You are correct. There should be minimal grease in the cavity although a thin coating on the parts shouldn't hurt function as long as it doesn't start picking up debris on the sensor ring or the sensor, specifically metalic (magnetic) particles.

While you have the hub removed it is a good idea the remove the abs sensor and clean and grease the bore in the knuckle with marine or silicone grease to allow for easy future removal of the sensor. If it is already stuck in place due to rust you may be able to gently tap it out using a wooden dowel as a punch. This has worked for me in the past.

I always put a little grease in there so the sensor doesn't seize and later break when it needs to be replaced.

A light coating of grease and a swig of Smack My A$$ and Call Me Sally works for me!
