I need help. I am converting a LS into a 1992 BJ73 and I did a horrible job when I tore out the old engine, so needing help tracking down the temp sensor wire and the engine oil pressure sensor wires.

There are three wires coming from near the battery on the exhaust side of the engine. The longest one I believe goes to the alternator, and there are two shorter wires on that same harness. one is white with a light bluestripe, the other is yellow with a green stripe. What do these go to. I thought gauges, but they did not test out.

On the other side of the engine, I have a big harness connector that I can't find any note of what it went to. Is the oil pressure sender or the water temp sensor on that side?

Thanks in advance,

k

No, I actually marked the A/C lines, (ha!!) recall those are installed at the dealer, so they are outside of the factory harness.

I am wondering if one of them (longer white one) is the extra wire that goes to the alternator.

Can you look at the cluster end and see what color it is there?

I have wiring diagrams for several models of early '90's 70-series, but none for the Euro VM version. None of the wire colors in the diagrams I have match those for gauge wiring, but the yellow/green one does look like an oil pressure sensor terminal.

Not being familiar with the VM diesel engine bay layout, when you say exhaust side is that RH or LH? The diagrams I have show at least one harness connector between the engine wiring and the gauge cluster wiring, and often wire colors don't stay the same throughout a run so colors at the gauges might not correspond to what is in the engine bay. You could always ohm the terminals at the harness connector and see if any show up at the gauge cluster.

Thanks so much for your help.... same thing here, I have a bunch of manuals, but none are looking similar.

Exhaust side on this is passenger side. Just found this picture, and that looks like water temp sensor there and that yellow wire. not sure if signal is the same as toyota gauges.

I don't see any other sensors on that side of the engine. The alternator looks like an old GM, so need to figure out what the second wire needs to go to now.

If I recall on an old gm alternator, you put power up on the big wire to the bolt, then 12v switched to the pin2.

anyone?

Figured out that the second white wire went to the alternator. It is switched hot, so must be an exciter wire. For now I will cap it off.

Also got a hold of the guy that bought my engine and he was kind enough to take pictures of the oil pressure sending unit. It is on the driver side. I went back to my h55f transmission and found the wiring harness on it still that had the oil pressure sensor on it.
