^ My concern with that style is clearance with the knuckle, but it might work. There's also the nonadjustable jaw width that has to be considered.

It clears the knuckle just fine and the legs sit atop the knuckle with the perfect width. I use it every time on the 100 to separate the upper ball joint. HF should've called it the 100 Series Toyota Land Cruiser upper ball joint removal tool.

I used this tool on mine. Worked like a charm. It comes with a set so you get all of the options.

Also will echo the heat comment others have made. Get it really hot. Then go after it with the ball joint puller and an impact gun.

I have this exact kit and it has been a life saver on multiple occasions.

Curious, How did you bust this?

I'll echo what's been suggested, it's really not that difficult!

The Pitman puller @reznunt posted in post #6 works very well for this. Get it on from bottom. Get it very very very tight using large breaker bar or long box end wrench. A tire tool or crowbar will aid in holding puller as you tighten. Then hit the knuckle where @ga12r1 circled in post #14, with a 5lb sledge. Tighten puller some more, hit knuckle again. Repeat until it pops out. I've done more of these upper ball joints this way then I can remember. One was so stuck it really took some serous effort, but it came off too.

The biggest issue will be, the knuckle will be moving around. This makes hitting difficult to get solid hit.. Using two hammers as suggested above may work well.

If you add heat and cool with penetrating oil, all the better.

You could also try drilling as large of a hole as you can in the center of the pin from the top side down through the tapered section. This may help relieve some of the compressive stresses in the pin and allow it to be hammered or pressed out easier. Be careful with using heat as you don't want to change the material properties. Best of luck

Good to know. I'll pick one up on my next stop at HF.

I think you’d ruin quite a few drill bits before making any real progress. Pittman arm puller is my vote or the earlier posted ball joint separator tool.

Die grinder with a carbide burr as a last resort. That may even get dulled too quick though.
